I ordered one of the small combo ones. I'm not sure it's going to be comfy when sitting or how fast it is vs IWB or pocket carry???? Anyone want to enlighten me? I already ordered the product. I guess if I don't like it, I can at very least use it for reloads or maybe a money belt or something. It'll at the very least add pockets to my apparel. But, I'm really hoping it works okay with my small guns. I have a SP101 2.3" I'd like to carry with it, also P11 Kel Tec and M85UL Taurus if the SP101 seems too heavy or something. They claim you can actually carry a primary AND a backup with it, but we'll see. If I can carry one .357 magnum revolver with reloads comfortably with it, I'll be real happy. I'd be happy enough with carrying the small auto or .38, but I hope I can comfortably carry the Ruger. It's a little big/heavy for a pocket, not by much, but a little bit. Heck, they make this thunderwear for 1911s and such, but I'll stick with smaller guns even though I might get propositioned by women with a 1911 in there. :D

I get propositioned without a 1911 in there ;)

Brag, brag, I know - ok, back to reality. I've always though that Thunderwear or similar is an interesting idea - haven't had the balls to try it yet, though (pun unintentional)

MC, would you post again after you try it out? I'm on the fence right now. Thinking about the Smartcarry for a fullsize auto.

TIA

Jason

yes I use one (Edit, Mine is smartcarry not thunderwear, sorry if I caused confusion).
It's very slow to retrieve
It's extremely deep concealment (go damn near anywhere)
If the grip pokes you in the gut you need to drop the holster lower (or get a smaller gun or loose weight...I'd be the last one <sigh>).

I have no problem using a Taurus Millennium Pro. My XD-40 service seems to be just a tiny smidge too long for comfort and I have to drop the TW holster lower than I care to in order to stop the "pokeing".

You can leave your belt looser than usual and it will hook on the top of your grip. This aids in drawing if necessary.

Make ABSOLUTELY SURE the gun is unloaded and practice drawing from various positions, especially sitting down.

Oh, yeah, I'll pass my judgement after a little testing and wear. Should be here Wednesday.

Thanks, ZeSpectre, seems I've been thinking along the right lines. Yes, I have a little Dunlop or "dickydo" (gut sticks out more'n the dickydo). Well, it ain't that bad, ain't like I can't see my feet, I've seen a lot worse, but I look bloated, shall we say. I worried a little over that, but main thing is I don't want it squashing the jewels when I sit down. LOL Might be a little problem with the hammer, too. Might have to trim that hammer spur and get serious or might be a good reason for a new 642 or something. But, I ain't buyin' nothin' at the moment and, really, if the P11 don't work, it ain't gonna happen. That's a tiny gun compared to a J frame.

I thought about that laxing the belt a notch and it hangin' on the gun, but didn't know how it'd work in real life. I'll play with that when I get it. I wear 2" oversize waste anyway, used to carrying IWB. But, I've often thought about trying the thunderwear, just seems so much more well concealed than IWB and bulges are desirable. LOL!

You like yours pretty well ZeSpectre?

Yes, I do like mine. It's especially useful for "dress up" situations where I need the deep concealment and a good "hideaway" for hot weather.

Oh and mine is SmartCarry, not Thunderwear. Should have checked earlier, couldn't remember which brand I had.

Anyone use thunderwear????

No but there is alot of Thunder coming out of my underwear.

I use a Thunderwear to carry my 360PD and it works great. Having a belt on above the grip holds the gun very securely in the holster. When you sit down, it stays flat against the back side of your zipper and you hardly even notice it's there. The pistol conceals so well that I end up carrying more often than I did w/a pocket holster.

Wowsers, now ya got me excited to try this thing out! :D

Every time I see or hear about Thunderwear I think about that line from Blazing Saddles[/BExcuse me while I whip this out Seriously I see a couple of inherant problems with Thunderwear one being that your firearm is practically inaccessible while sitting. Another concern that I would have with Thunderwear during a defensive situation when you are focused on said bad guy and hurrying to retrieve your weapon you forget your training and accidently place your finger on the trigger and blow your junk off! I'll stick with IWB. I see no reason for Thunderwear as most people wouldn't notice if you were open carrying.

I agree with Ze, it's deep concealment and the draw is slow.

Depending on your body type and mode of dress, drawing while seated may be easier and quicker than when standing. The gun is in your lap when seated. It is a very comfortable way to carry with a small firearm (ie; S&W 642 or similiar size).

LOL. Yeah, that would be bad. This is why you gotta practise the draw until it is second nature with whatever holster you are using.

Overalls as dress up? I thought that was Missouri. :)

I'll have to pass on this one . . . sounds too difficult to get to the right tool in a hurry in there & I'd hate to have to explain how I "just had to take a whiz & accidentally shot your cat" . . . this post did conjure-up some visuals that made me chuckle, however. Back on-topic: I'll stick with more conventional concealed carry methods & if it's a dress-up occasion, I'll wear jeans with no holes in the knees . . .

I have Thunderwear, same model you ordered. I have used it with my Glock 27, my Taurus .38 snub and mostly my Kel-tec .32. It takes a little learning to take a whiz while wearing it, but once you get past that I have found it to be a good mode of carry for concealment in very hot weather.

I don't like IWB. It's okay, but it's quite hot down here and the only cover garment possible is an un-tucked T 70 percent of the year. I mostly have carried in a pocket, not real accessible when sitting, either. I don't sit all that much, though, mostly working in the shop and riding motorcycles to get where I need to go, but in the car, the accessibility would be a concern I suppose. I'll probably carry back up and reloads in this thing if it's comfy and carry my .45 IWB when on a trip to the big city, anyway. I have these baggy Hawaiian shirts for that and I don't travel that much to the big city.

At the very least, maybe it'll free up a pocket. I just wanna try it. If I really like it, could be the answer to the maladies of pocket carry, like being able to carry my SP101 in comfort, a little too big and heavy for pocket carry. Or, I can get those speed loaders out of my pockets, carry my M85UL as back up to my IWB primary. Hoping I'll like it cause it will give me more options. Right now, I feel like my pockets are too loaded down most of the time what with everything having to go in my left pocket so the gun will be free in the right pocket and I've found no really good way to carry speed loaders other than in the off side pocket which ain't a great deal,

I got a Smartcarry for my P239, and it will not work for me. I do have a bit of a beer belly, but it is not that bad. I have a problem with the gun poking me in the stomach, if I try to carry it too high. If I try to carry it lower, I appear to be very happy to see you when I sit down. I have been able to carry my 642, and my PM9, in the Smartcarry, but they are still not real comfortable. I'll stick to my Mika pocket holster for the 642, and a Crossbreed Supertuck for the PM9. I'm not going to carry the 239 until the VMII arrives.

Got it today. I must say, I think it's overpriced. It's just a ballistic nylon and velcro pouch. I've bought money pouches of a different shape for less than 10 bucks. But, then, they weren't designed for carrying a gun. It has a large pouch behind the holster I can use for cash on trips and such, pretty nice. I put the empty SP101 in it and practiced a bit. I have a Hogue on the gun, a little longer than stock, but seems to hide well, plenty of room. I can sit down, even bend over and tie my shoes and it doesn't bother my gut, but then my gut just sorta sticks out a little, not like it lops over anywhere. LOL As I had hoped, I can suck in the gut and the draw is fairly quick, though it takes both hands to be quick. I've had it on about 4 hours now and I must say I prefer it to IWB, though I'm not really that used to it, yet.

The only sign of the gun in there is a little bulge near the belt from the grip. My boot gripped Taurus would bulge less and the Kel Tec P11 disappears. With my shirt tail out, though, any bulges are masked, but even with the shirt tail in, you wouldn't notice it.

The one thing that everyone says here and is true, if you're sitting, you need to loosen the belt to get at it or just straighten up in the chair/seat and you can get at it, but it's a lot slower than standing regardless. Standing, the draw is quick. So, when I carry with it on a trip in the car, I can wear back up on an ankle. Frankly, pocket carry is slow while seated and even IWB isn't that fast and you sort of sit on the gun, so you need to lean forward. The one thing ankle carry can do is draw quick from a seated position like in a car. I have an Uncle Mikes ankle holster for small autos and one for J frames, so I can pick my poison there. I hardly ever wear on the ankle, but seems like a good idea when in the car.

The thunder wear sure isn't the preferred method if you drive a lot, but I rarely drive. I'm usually on a bike around here. However, I can get at it if I loosen my belt. My pants are 2" oversize. I wear 36 ideally and buy 38s for IWB and such. So, there's room to draw from it with my belt loose. I can just unhook the belt in the car and tighten it up when I get there, will work, too.

So, I think I'm going to like the system for daily carry, but I'll qualify that by saying I haven't worn it all day, yet. IWB doesn't get to irritation until the last few hours of the day when you can't wait to get it off, LOL. Probably wouldn't be as bad with less belly roll, but it gets old. Can't carry the .357 in a pocket, too heavy and the grip it takes to shoot it well is a little big. So, this thunderwear thing looks like the way to go with the SP101 and I really like carrying the caliber. I'm with .357 the way some are about .45, just makes me feel like I have enough gun. :D Yeah, the 2.3" barrel ain't what a 4" is, but it's still putting up 1340 fps with a 140 grain bullet, a good bit better'n my .38 loads.

I made my own "lightning wear" and I don't think there is a better way to carry with gym shorts, surf shorts, what have you. I do not use it all the time but it does come in handy living in the South.

I have been using a smart carry since I received my carry permit (just a few months) and it works well for me. I tried IWB and other methods with cover clothing but it just did not fit my lifestyle. I usually dress business casual, with dockers and a polo shirt and the smart carry works every day. I have found that draw is slow, which is the big negative, but without smart carry I probably would not carry as often. its VERY comfortable for me..I place it low and slightly offset with the butt of my sig 239 sas set behind the zipper and it can not be detected.

I wear my SmartCarry almost daily. Seldom do I have pants with a belt on. I carry my G19 in it with no problem. When I sit in my car, I always take it out of there anyway and put the Glock between the front seats. I wouldn't want to have to get around the seat belt to get it. Sitting in restaurants, etc. is no problem.

And I don't really mind the occasional "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?" line... :D
