Since you have been helpful with my past posts I figured I'd ask another question...I'm interested in getting a Serbu Super Shorty, I know its classified as an AOW. What is the exact procedure for someone in NY to get this? I think it goes on the pistol permit in NYS but am not 100% certain. Do I go to the gun shop and fill out the paperwork there or what? I found a couple shops that sell them but I dont imagine its as easy as walking into the store and purchasing it...must be a waiting period of some sort. Thanks again.

This guy says that AOW's are not allowed in NYS unless LE or a dealer. Not sure of the accuracy, but might want to double check before getting too far down the road.

As for purchasing, you will be dealing with Federal law as much as state. AOW's are covered by the National Firearms Act meaning you will need to pay for the firearm, send off an application for an NFA tax stamp, and get that stamp back BEFORE you can take possession of the firearm from the dealer. The dealer should help with all the paperwork.

That is, again, assuming you can even own one in New York.

Also, the FFL dealer needs to be a FFL/SOT dealer.
FFL dealers can't deal in Title 2 fireams unless they are also a SOT.
So, you need to find a Type-01 FFL Class 3 SOT dealer or a Type-07 FFL Class 2 manufacturer to transfer the AOW.

Actually, AOWs are allowed in NYS. Statewide, they are treated as a pistol; you go through this pistol process with the state to get them. You also go through the NFA process like you would in any other state. In NYS, you can actually get unrestricted carry of an AOW. Your best bet is to live in a rural county or a county where the sheriff will do a sign-off.
