I'm looking for an aperture ("peep") sight for a Savage Mk2 .22. From what I can tell, the Williams WGRS-54 is the only real option. I talked to a nice fellow at Williams over the phone today, who said it wasn't actually appropriate/designed for the rifle, but I might be able to make it fit...
I found a few posts somewhere on the web (Midway?) which suggested that widening the dovetail with a file slightly was all that's necessary to make the sight fit. Has anyone here done that? If so, do you have a picture of the finished product?
Also, will a new rear sight mean that the front sight will also need to be replaced? Do these simply slide off with the tap of a rubber hammer? Is there an optimal height for the new front sight? I realize there's probably a triangle I should draw to determine this...
