Pictures from April 6, 7th Pasadena gun show(south Houston metro).

I suspect that this is probably man made, driven by fear mongering in gun/ammo industry and also by various factions in churches/conservative movement.

For example, I heard one folk active in church state that all government is BAD(their words, not mine) and that the government is coming to take away their ammo/22LR/rimfires.

It's commonly said that politicians are self-serving...it appears that industry and many organizations are so too...

A wonderful book covering the same topic is

Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds by Charles Mackay.

I usually tell folks that current shortage is temporary and all you are getting, out of paying high prices right now, is the ability to shoot NOW rather than wait 6 months or 1 year later.

For now, I usually advise folks to use laser targeting system/AIRSOFT/pellet systems.

Guess I didn't miss out on anything.

Did see more than a handful of guys in line at Academy at 6:20 in the morning over the weekend. I'll get mine when they are done getting theirs.

Wow what a bargain that Wolf is. How many thousands of rounds did ya pick up?

That's insane, I can't imagine an individual beeing so desperate for ammo, as to actually pay those prices. I've still got a decent cache, and still shoot my rimfires several times a week. This makes me want to cut back a bit, so I can ride this shortage out, possibly. I believe this has nothing to the political climate, and is purely a manmade (in this area) shortage, by these scalpers, just purchasing at retail and reselling for ungodly amounts. I'd buy a decent pellet rifle, and pistol before paying that much for 22 LR.

Anyone who buys .22 LR for anything close to that price has lost their mind. I understand buying a box of 50 at a high price just so you can have some in emergencies but why buy 500 at ridiculous prices?

Waiting in line for ammo at 6:20am is also loco. Mucho loco.

I just can't figure out why people would pay that much for 22lr. I only go shooting about 1-2 times a month on average (though I wish I could go more) and haven't shot any 22lr the past 2-3 times because I'm down to an "emergencies only" amount.

At the point that 22 costs the same or more per round as reloading my center-fires, I see no reason to pay the price for it. The only reason I own 22s is for the lower cost, and I hope that it goes back down below $0.10/rd sometime in the near future.

I can tell for sure now that the days of 3-5 cent 22lr rounds are gone forever, but if they don't go back to a reasonable price for what they are, I'll be forced to sell my rimfires for something that's less of a rip-off:cuss:

I saw 550 boxes or Rem go for $130 a box this weekend.
22 hornady 50 gr Amax for $70+
Powder for $70+ per#
A case of PMC 223 FMJ $900
7.62 x 39 over $1 per round
all sold at auction

I totally agree. I haven't done the math, but I suspect I can reload my .38's for less than they're asking for .22lr.

The .22lr and other rounds with primer around circumference of rim can't be reloaded therefore people bought a lot and keep buying it. I wish this would have negative effect on growing squirrel population where I live. It doesn't.:banghead:
Last time I bought .22lr it was limited edition Winchester stuff in wooden boxes. It cost about $25/500. I would not pay prices shown above. NEVER.

Pretty soon there will be shortage of RWS, Gamo, Beeman,..... stuff too.
