I've never really been an AR guy, but I've always thought that if I get one, I'd like it to be in .308.

My questions;
1. Are the lowers interchangable (.223 and .308 fit in same lower, just different mags)?

2. What do AR-10's start out at price-wise? I would normally just research prices myself but since there are so many manufacturers of AR's, I thought I'd ask you guys (and gals). Are there any quality/reccomended models under $1k?

Thanks for any input.

1. No, the .223 and the .308 require different sized magazine wells, thus the lowers are not interchangeable.
2. There are lots of options. I got my Rock River LAR-8 for 1K last year. Do some looking around, see what local dealers can do for you.

seems to me that dpms is running in the $800 range right now.

there are differences between the different makers, notably is mag interchangeability. dpms uses a design that will work w/ dpms-pattern rifles, and armalite's design only works w/ armalite pattern rifles.

i went w/ a remington r-25 because it uses dpms-pattern mags, and magpul p-mags are available for dpms patterns.

I have an Armalite AR-10(T) right now, easily my favorite weapon. I gave about $1k for it as a trade and easily feel like I got the better end of the deal.

Thanks for the help guys. After looking at a few of the manufacturers, I kinda like the RRA LAR-8 due to it accepting FAL mags. And it looks like the price is about $1K. I don't have the capital yet, but I'll be thinking hard when comes the time. Thanks.

C'mon already. Everyone should know by now that the AR-10 is only made by Armalite. They hold the copyright
