I would like to buy an "AR-308" (AR-10 clone) lower receiver -- probably an assembly but maybe stripped. I see that Armalite and Fulton offer versions? Is there anyone else?

I would appreciate any inputs on experiences. I'm starting cold on this project and I need to come up to speed. Thanks.

I own a Mega and POF. 100% happy. Maybe a DPMS in the future. but match the upper with the lower or else the lines may not match up. The POF complete is almost the same price as building it yourself, so take that into consideration. The Armalites are over rated, IMHO. parts are easier to find for the DPMS types.

Thanks for the input. Are the Armalite-type and DPMS-type pretty much the same in terms of performance? Those are the two major "platforms", right? Thanks again.

DPMS is a manufacturer not a platform. There are different platforms or magazines used. G3, FAL, SR-25 and M14. The SR-25 magazine is the defecto standard and is used by DPMS, ArmaLite, KAC, CMMG, LMT and others.

No one platform has a advantage with aftermarket parts, reliability or accuracy.

Yes. DPMS, POF, and Mega are SR-25 type rifles/platforms. The platform was adopted by the Armed Forces 3 years ago, which is why you are beginning to see an increase of parts coming out. IMHO, Armalite has fallen behind. The POF(Upper) is piston driven, fluted barrel, and has a very unique look. The Mega has a Monolithic rail option. Both are billet with integrated trigger guards and have ambi bolt release. My buddy has a LWRC that has side charge, which helps if you have a large scope. The La Rue stuff is top notch.

Chaser is right, mags are different.

And define performance. There are more companies making the SR-25 type rifles and all the rifles I've seen/have shoot as accurate as my bolt actions. But do your research and don't let any tell you how to spend your money.

Pof also makes DI uppers. They make the uppers and lower that gap uses for the gap10. They wouldn't use the piston system
