Does anyone know which (if any) companies offer 14.5 inch AR15 barrels with a permanently attached flash hider? I remember seeing a website that allowed you to choose different options and parts, sort of like the Del-Ton site.

Thanks,
Dev

A wapon with a barrel less than 16" has to be classified as a "Short Barreled Rifle" (SBR) and the owner has fill out extra papework and pay extra money to have and keep it. Many AR makers will permanenty mount a longer flash hider/compensator/muzzle brake on a 14.5" to bring the overall length out to the legal limit of 16"

I know Bushmaster offers 14.5s like this, as does Sabre Defence. Most major retail sellers of AR components like Del-Ton, CMMG, Bravo Company USA, et al offer 14.5s with the option to put the FH/Comp/Brake of your choice on it when ordering.

Bushmaster!

I have an M4gery(14 1/2" barrel)I bought during the ban with a permanently mounted,"AK muzzle brake" to bring it to the Federal minimum of 16". I don't see why, since " the ban:barf: " is over, why they wouldn't do the same for a Vortex, or A2, or similar flash suppressor they stock to be permanently welded to the threads. HTH

I'll secong CMMG, good barrels and excellent customer service.

Might a recommend a 16" barrel. If for any reason you need to remove or replace the flash hider, front sight base, handguard cap, or barrel nut you are going to have to destructively remove the flash hider and have a new one permanently installed.

The inch and a helf of barrel doesn't have any practical effect on handling, gets you small boost in velocity, and can save some major headaches if you have to make a minor repair.

14" barrel w/ flash hider

Hello,
As mentioned, may someday have to "undo" upper/barrel and PIA to torch or gind off that flash hider!! 16" barrels will shoot generally right along with their 20" brothers out to 600 yards, but the 14" jobs kind of go astray in the accuracy. Perhaps that is not of concern to you, but just a thought.:)

Don't kid yourself on a 14.5 bbl's accuracy.
I have a BM 11.5 and can nail a skeet out to 500 + yards. Of course as with any 5.56 round wind is an issue, and so is bullet drop.

BTW, I have had 14.5",16" and 20" bbls. My fav so far is the 11.5.
it is this one ----> http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/barrel-assemblies/abbl11.5wa.asp

No Kidding Intended!!

Hello,
Sure you can nail a skeet at 500 yards, but you won't see such short barrels being used at matches because long range starts at 600 yards! But, if the short barrels works for you, god bless!!:)

I also suggest considering the 16" barrel. The 5.56 loads generally need as much velocity as you can give them, and while it's not huge there is an advantage to the extra 1.5". (What I'd really suggest is an A1 ("pencil") profile 20" barrel, which will really improve downrange velocity but still handles and balances very well.)

Guys, please...

This sounds like a man that knows what he wants... He asked a specific question about a 14 1/2" barrel, not a 16" barrel. The way he asked the question leads me to believe he knows that with a PERMANENTLY attatched muzzle device, it will have to be,"gunsmithed off". To the guys making sure he know that, that is simply good looking out for a fellow gunnie:) . But to those talking about the need for the extra barrel simply for muzzle velocity and all this:banghead: ... I bet this is going to be a short range home defense/SHTF/plinker set up, not a Competion rifle/Long range target rifle ,or he would be getting a 20" or longer barrel:neener: !
