Ar-15 kits

Hey guys ive got a lower receiver from Double Star on order and was thinking of what kind of rifle i wanted to build. I am leaning towards a 11.5" barrel with a 5.5" flash suppressor (Fixed) and a flat top upper. If i can, i want to buy a kit with all of that but no one offers one. the closest i can get is this http://tinyurl.com/3wh3pf But everyone is out of stock of everything...... Go figure As far as accuracy and velocity, roughly what would be the trade off from going from a 16" to an 11.5"? Thanks for the info guys

Check Model 1 Sales they might have one in stock. The trade of will be huge in the velocity dept. The accuracy will be good at moderate ranges 150yrds or less.

I don't see the point in the 11.5" barrel with the fixed flash hider unless you plan on turning it into a short barreled rifle.

If it's going to have to be 16" minimum overall length, you may as well just get the extra rifling.

Thats true deer hunter, but i like the look of the xm177. I tend to gravitate towards guns, knives, or anything else for that mater that are not quite the norm. I mean everyone and their brother (ok not really) has an m4gery. i want to emulate the original. To me there is just something about the short barrel and the 5.5" flash suppressor that screams...lol i can't believe im typing this "high speed low drag" I love the look of this set up. It may not be able to perform as well as others at ranges beyond X but hey, i have never personally had a chance to shoot past 300 yards, Don't think that is going to change anytime soon. If i am going to buy a gun, i want it to be the gun i want, not what i was sold buy the local fun store. And as always YMMV

Get the best of both worlds, its called a Reverse flash hider. It will let you have a 16" with the look of the XM.

Are dismantled lowers no longer considered the actual firearm, then..? I'm looking at the kits on Model 1 Sales, and their lowers come in dismantled parts, not complete lowers. (Excuse the n00bness if that's a simple question... )

The part with the serial number is the firearm. That's it. Everything else are considered parts for that firearm.

Mr. Spiffy, A "stripped" lower is still the part that is considered the "firearm". I'm sure someone will correct me with the right terminology, but basically you need to fill out the paperwork for even a stripped lower. The parts kit to finish the lower, and the uppers can be purchased without the paperwork. (at least in states that allow AR's)

Salthouse that is correct. The actual firearm is the lower everything else is just parts. Te rifle kits they have for sale have everything in them BUT the stripped lower. Hence you can have it shipped directly to you.

the 11.5 will not perform as well as the 16 just like the 16 does not perform like the 20

If i came off in my post as offended im sorry i was not and am not, i was merely stating my reasons for considering the 11.5. I know it will not perform as well compared to the 16 or 20 inch barrels. If i every have the opportunity to shoot farther that 300 yards regularly i will defiantly be buying a 20+ inch upper I am not intending this to be a long range shooter just a plinker /HD rifle. ?I wish i would not have waited so long to get one....ah.... C'est la vie

I wouldn't even use it for HD. The 5.56's lethality is based mostly on driving that lightweight bullet to very high velocities. With an 11.5 inch barrel, I wouldn't trust it very much at all.

i'm not sure how much muzzle veloctie your going to loose but i do know the 16 gives up allot too the 20inch so i'm guessing here but i'd think the 11.5 would put u at very low velocities if your dead sett on a 11.5 with a long flash hider think about a 6.8spc atleast then you would be hitting your target with allot more lead

Since it has to be 16" to be legal, might as well get the most out of it. Go with the 16" and if you want the look, get a reverse flash hider put on it.

If you go Model 1, you are gambling. I have not personally ever seen anyone go to model 1 and have a good experience.
