i am just ltarting to get interested in the so called " black rifles " after being brought up knowing nothing but the older sporting rifles ( winchesters, remingtons, savages, etc. ), that being said im kinda confused with all the different kinds of ar 15s - m 4, a1, a2, etc. can any one direct me to some information as to figgure out what all the different configurations are? the second question i have is did anyone ever get the 50 bmg uppers from bohica? what are they like? whats the recoil like?

*the information below does not necessarily reflect every AR-15*
-M-4 has a 14.5" barrel, making it a title II firearm.
-Carbine AR-15's have a 16" barrel, making them legal. They look like an M4 with a little extra on the end.
-A1 upper receivers have a carry handle and can only be adjusted for windage. A1 handguards are triangular in shape (think Vietnam era M-16).
-A2 Upper receivers look like A1's, but the rear sight aperture has it's own housing that can be adjusted for windage and elevation. A2 handguards are more round than A1 handguards.
-A3 uppers only have a rail on the top for mounting optics.

www.ar15.com has LOADS of information on the AR-15. If you can find one, I would suggest picking up a DPMS catalog and read that. It's 3/8" thick of pure EBR goodness, and it's not the only catalog out there.

The bohica rocks. Gingerbreadman gave good info for ya to look at also. As for the .50 BMG Bohica...they weigh the gun down more but shooting them is pretty easy. If you have ever shot a heavy turkey load from a 12ga shotgun its very similar, the 50 might be slightly more potent but the report is far more extreme than that of a shotgun. My suggestion to anyone with an AR...buy the bohica and get a press for .50 cal reloading.
