AR-15 under barrel sling swivel, can it be moved to side?

I have a S&W M&P 15 that came with only a swivel under the sight. I want to move it to the side so I can mount a VTac sling more easily. Can this be done or do I have to mount it to it the way it is?

Also, the instructions for the sling say it can be mounted to the front sight base. Does this mean I can just attach it to the sight post itself? Would this affect accuracy when using the sling to stabilize the rifle while firing? I'm only asking this if it's not possible to move the swivel.

You can't move the swivel.

But you can get a side mount swivel.

Or, you can just loop though the front sight tower.
