I am about to purchase an ACOG, TA11J-308, and want to put some iron sights on it as well. They will not be "co-witnessed" but both on the rifle at the same time it fails. The rifle is a RRA LAR-8.

Which front sight post would you guys recommend?

OR

STEEL DETACHABLE FRONT SIGHT

Then unless you want a bottom rail on the sight, I would go with the standard detachable sight (assuming the rail on the gas block you have sits at the same height as the flat top receiver, otherwise you need a sight that's designed for lower gas block rails). LMT and a few others also make fixed detachable front sights. If you decide you would prefer a folding front sight, I would recommend Troy.

I was more interested in the non-folding options. Just wondering if there would be an advantage to integrating the sight to the gas block or if the detachable ones are just as good...

The advantage would be that it's integrated, less parts. However, since you already have a gas block installed, then just adding a detachable sight is the simplest solution, and gives you the option to easily replace it with a folder if you ever decide to go that route.
