I currently have my DMS 1 mounted on the carry handle of my Bushmaster 223. Will be take the handle off so I can remount the scope. Please advise on a nice riser and riser height to clear the front standard sight post.

You won't see the FSB in the scope provided the magnification is over about 3x.
You want approx 1.4-1.6" base to ring center height if you use rings.
The best mounting solution for optics on a flat-top AR-15 is the appropciate LaRue mount.
