I use the TROY TRX Extreme rails which are the same as the VTAC except with round cooling holes instead of slots. I love them. I haven't been able to beat one off yet, they are light, and don't have all that extra cheese grater you probably don't need on them. They come with 3 extra short rails you can bolt on them anyhere in case you need rails on bottom or side for bipod, sling mount, or light. They also make a quick disconnect sling mount for the cooling holes. Troy/VTAC has an excellent system for easily installing with the receiver and forearm rails lined up.
 
Depends on what you use it for. If you're doing slow fire stuff, anything will be fine. If you're using it for rapid fire stuff, then consider NOT getting a carbon fiber hand guard. Those retain heat like crazy.

That pretty much sums up what i was going to add. I love my TRX rail.
 
I would have thought the carbon fiber tube would stay a little cooler. The rifle will get heated at times. It will be semi, but will likely see a few hundred rds / hr.
 
I have a couple of friends that use the VTACs and they absolutely love them, I have only shot them a couple of times but never got a chance to run them too hard. On the other hand I have a few PRIs and have been very happy with them. I'm not sure about the heat retention of carbon fiber vs aluminum, but I know I have done a few dumps with mag changes and never noticed the shortys getting hot. I haven't cut loose with the long one and probably won't, so I don't think there is much of a chance of it getting too warm.

I have the PRI, in FDE, on an 18" SPR. No probs at all...real solid and doesn't get hot for me (around 150 an hour) during precision target work on steel. There are heatshields inside and I have yet to get mine uncomfortably hot. The round ones are of a large enough diameter to provide a lot ventilation too.

Word to the wise, putting a QD sling attachment can be a pain. Look on PRIs website, they have a couple options. I put the QD mount (item 05-070-04) on the right side of my rail (left handed I am) and the best method I found to attach it was to use a very long hemostat and run the nut down the inside of the handguard between the carbon fiber and the heatshield. If you're looking at the exact model as you linked and are going to attach to a section of rail, no worries.

Esheato, that looks like what I'm wanting to do. I assume you bought the upper complete from BCM? I may end up going that route, but I think I have enough spare stuff to save a few bucks if I build it. How does it shoot?

I did and that's why I had so many probs getting the QD sling mount attached. I had called PRI and asked how they expected me to attach it, their suggestion was to completely remove the handguard...ugh.

I figured there had to be a simpler way since everything was already assembled. Harbor Freight to the rescue! $2 Chinese hemostat, maybe 10-12" long, clamped the nut and worked my way down between the handguard and the heatshields and bolted it on.

Not gonna lie, it took me a bit to work it in there just right and get it done, but I didn't have to disassemble and reassemble the upper.

I shoot it to 1k and can regularly (~60%) hit 12x16" steel with Nosler 77 Custom Comps at 2500 fps. 600 yards and in is incredibly easy. Just like any long range though, the wind is the real issue with bullets that small. FYI, I dial 49 MOA to get it to 1k...takes me longer to crank the darn elevation knob than to line up the shot!

Keep in mind, I'm shooting mixed brass so they're not match quality, sorting brass is a step that I'm trying to avoid since I have several 5 gal. buckets of prepped brass. It shoots good enough for me (with the 2.5-10 NF) these are my groups at 100:

If I can ring steel the majority of the time I'm happy but I'm not quite there yet...always more practice to be done.
 
Nice looking rifles, Big44mag, but i'm not sure i see the reason for a magnifier on a pistol caliber carbine.
