First question is about a Single point sling i bought today. It should attach to the rear of the upper end of the receiver but i don't have an attachment point. Looks like there is something there i could possibly loosen and offset? yay/nay? im an idiot? (im a pistol guy :uhoh:)

Second is i want to attach at least a light? maybe the vertical grip/vertical grip bi-pod?... and there is a nub under my front sight, is there enough material there for that?

What ive seen for the Magpul edition is basically rails that get screwed on and then you attach at will.

I don't know where to find those rails.

Can someone put me on the right path? Id appreciate it. Thanks!

The thing under the front sight is a beyonet lug. I believe the rails screw into the slots in the magpul handgaurds. The sling attachment goes under the castle nut on the buffer tube. You should use a castle nut wrench or an AR armorers wrench.

Be careful when you undo the castle nut there is a small spring under there that can be a pain to put back in. The spring puts tension on your take down pin.

Nice AR...I'm kind of keen on that Magpul edition (is it a S&W M&P??)
Here's what you need to do......
1. either get a rail attachment that clamps around your front sight post/gas block and keep the grips you have OR
2. Get a drop in replacement fore-end which will replace your front grips with rails (Troy Industries make a great one) OR
3. Get a "free float" kit that will be the same as option #2 but requires a bit of smithing and is a bit more difficult. This will free float the barrel (pros/cons for another post) OR
4. Get a set of rails that can be mounted THROUGH the openings in your present hand grips (but I'm not sure how compatible they will be with the Magpul grips as they are kind of unique).

I went with option no. 2 and have been very happy with it. PM me if you have other questions as there is a TON of info out there. Try brownells.com for parts or get them straight from the manufacturer. Try e-bay too. I've found some great deals. REMEMBER that front grips/handguards come in several different sizes so you need to know exactly what length you need. Looks like yours are six inch carbine length?? brownells.com also has a great video series that tells you all about building and upgrading your AR. Check it out.

As far as your sling....you see your picture under the castle nut (where the buffer tube/buttstock meets the receiver)?? You can get several variations of that 'plate' with one, two, even three holes/different shapes for your needs. There is plenty of stuff out there for you....you just need to decide exactly what you want to do with your rifle. I'm assuming that part of the appeal of the Magpul edition is the custom look, so how willing are you to change that??

Magpul's handguard is called the Magpul MOE handguard. You should be able to find the rails somewhere- try Ranier Arms, G&R Tactical, or Bravo Company.

Don't buy the rails from that airsoft place that Bones 11B or use poly rails.

You want good quality aluminum rails for mounting your stuff, not junk.

he doesn't need to do any of that. The Magpul handguards are specifically engineered to allow attachment of a rail section for lights, grips, or similar light duty attachment. Don't go crazy with bolting on stuff...
