OK Folks,
I'm sure this has gone around on various occassions but here is my dilemma, I've recently taken the carry handle off of my S&W 15 and then added a Magpul Pro MBUS and I am now looking for a sight to add on to it.

In a perfect world I'd buy something like an ACOG or HAMR and be good since they both have magnification and a non-magnified red dot. The rub is they cost more than mr rifle and my budget doesn't allow me to spend that much all at once or if I did I probably wouldn't be able to get to the range in a year.

I primarily only use the rifle at the range and an HD gun, God willing that wil never come to pass. My home range is maxed out at 100 yeards so my thought is a non-magnified red dot should be fine, but then there are just too many choices. Two I really like the look and have good to great reviews are the Aimpoint PRO and the Lucid HD7. I know there are many others but these two stick out for me for some reason. The Pro is about $400 and is doable for me if a pinch a few pennies over the next few months, the HD 7 is about $200 including a 2x screw on magnifier. I'd have the HD7 sooner but am I just going to be sorry about the quality of a quick purchase, the Aimpoint will likely last forever the Lucid, not sure. Have any of you owned or used both of these to give a hands on comparison?

I love this hobby but there are just too many decisons to make.:banghead:

Thanks.
Chuck

Save your pennies and get the Aimpoint. You won't be sorry. In the meantime, practice with your irons.

If you look in many other forums, you can buy the Aimpoint PRO for $375 shipped in good used condition.

I have Aimpoints mounted on 3 of my ARs, including an Aimpoint PRO, and I can't recommend them enough. I've also used Eotechs and ACOGs on my issued M4s, and I prefer the Aimpoint. Save up for the PRO. You won't regret it.

Aimpoint Pro is a sweet optic. Keep an eye on Slickguns for sales, usually around the $350 mark. Also, a less expensive option is the Bushnell TRS-25 which usually runs in the $75 region.

I personally have an Aimpoint Pro, a Aimpoint H1 Micro and a Bushnell TRS-25. Optically, the Bushnell micro is almost as good as the Aimpoint, to my eyes at least. Its also very bright and I actually prefer the brightness adjuster on the Bushnell, over the H1, the Bushnell's clicks are much more positive. That said, I'd trust the Aimpoint with my life.
