Finally got to the shooting range after over 4 months of cold weather. Anybody else up North been out? Put a new Bushnell 4X9 scope on the AR, its in .223 an also took the 1955 HRA Garand with 4X9 old Tasco...only one other guy there....the range has 25 to 714 yd. backstops....heres the results.

AR 50yds. 6 shot fired 1.25" group....1" low average.
110yds. 9 shots.....3.25".............. .25" high. .25" left.
220yds. 7shots.....5.0"............... .5" high .25" right
350yds. 5 shots.... 5.0"..............-13" low 2" left

M1 50yds. 8 shots fired 2.25" group...... .75" low .5" left
110yds 8 shots...... 3.25" group..... .75" low .5" left
220yds. 6shots ..... 6.0" group.... 2.0" low
350yds. 7shots......12.0 group.... 8.0 low 4.0" left

AR was using 55gr. reloads.

M1 was using HXP 1972 Greek.

The groups would of been tighter on M1 at 50yds. but had apart an so the
first 2 rounds were off a bit then things settled back into the CMP stock.

Wind was from my right about 5 mph on last shots at 350 yds.

I think it was a good first time out this year.

It would be interesting to see how much better some different ammo would shoot in your Garand. It should shoot much better groups. Particularly out at 350.

Want is your definition of Up-North?
I have 2 feet of new blowing snow and it is 9 above zero at my place. I am heading to the range like I do every weekend. Last week we put sandbags on the chrono tripod to keep it from blowing over. Although using a chronograph does suck when the snow piles up on the sensors.

I was out today at a range in southern WI. It was 28 to a little less than 40 degs. when I was there. Shot the new Anschutz 1518 and M4gery and managed to get less than 1/2" groups at 50 yards with the Anschutz despite the shivers and ocasional flyer. I know it can do better. The carbine gave the usual 3/4-1" at 50 with the dot sight. I am pleased that it is real consistant in all weather.

Float Pilot, I agree that good reloads would work much better in the Garand. Seems I always get 1 or 2 flyers on the HXP an good ammo would tighten it up. I have done better with the AR, but just got out there an fired quick rounds downrange...If I'm not firing every couple seconds I just ain't having as much fun...ha...You are way up North!!
