hello all,
please forgive the newbie-like question, but i just love to shoot and never have nor will profess to be an expert. ive had an olympic arms 16" no frills ar about a year. ive tragically only been able to get out and put maybe 50 rounds through it. i used .223 remington 55g. my barrel is stamped 5.56 and is, according to the oly website, is chrome-moly. i ask this to be safe rather than sorry.. can i go ahead and use 5.56-labeled cartridge? remember....i already apologized for a newbie question! thanks!!

Yes.

That is what your rifle is made to shoot.

.223 and 5.56 are okay in a 5.56 barrel.

Shoot either/or whatever you can get your hands on right now.

Have fun.

Dont apologize for a noob question. Rather safe than sorry. We were all noobs at one point.

thanks...that was the reason for the question actually. i'm trying to pick up some more ammo, but didnt want to stockpile the wrong stuff. obamo-mania has definitely stimulated the ammo industry....not much left out there. at least its going to good homes instead of the gun-grabbing socialists!

Safe bet is to test fire any brand of ammo to check accuracy and power in your rifle before going nuts (with the piles) Some of the ammo is either low powered or not very accurate (or both) and might not keep you happy.
For some uses the slight loss of power or the less than stellar accuracy is not as importaint as the lower price.
