I have a Bushmaster that has a flash hider that is held on with 4 set screws (thank you mr clinton). This thing has shot off twice now and I have done everything but JB Weld it on:cuss: .. I was wondering if anyone has threaded their barrel and installed their own flash hider with good results. Is there anything I need to watch out for, Or should I just take it to the gunsmith and pay $150. to get one put on?

Thanks,
dt

You can purchase a mandrel from Brownell's that will guide your thread die straight onto the barrel. Or send it to George at EGW. They do it for much less than $150, more like $50-75 if I recall, although I'm sure that they would be glad to take $150 if you offered it! One thing for sure, it will be done right. You can take that to the bank.

I had a friend that wanted his barrel threaded ½ 28, I told him if he bought the die I’d do it for free, but I keep the die. I have since threaded 10 or so, the only catch is your going to need a lathe, to turn the barrel to the proper OD for threading.

I have not dimpled the barrel. I really didn't want to do that incase I decided to thread it.

The needing a lathe thing has me though.

Looks like I may be checking with George at EGW

Anyone else have any comments?

The dimples will be turned off the barrel by the cutter on the lathe before it's threaded.
