Oh come on.

First off he explains what happened very honestly then offers to stand by the product. Then he offers a detailed and great option for those who are comfortable doing the work theirself. I fail to see how that says that they make a bad product.

How often to the big car makers get caught like this and have to offer recalls for defects? A lot more often than a small maker of stocks and magazines I suspect.

Mistakes happen. It's how folks respond and correct them that counts. I see nothing but integrity in that video. A rather embarrassed integrity but integrity nonetheless.

Oh, and I don't own or plan on owning any Promag products. So it's not like I have any vested intrest. I'm just a guy that makes his share of mistakes and admits to them honestly if a little sheepishly. So I find nothing shameful in the admission of the issue and the options to send the mags back and the risky but considerate inclusion of a home fix.

I had something similar happen with smith & Wesson. The front white dot came out on my M&P and they offered to replace it. They also explained how to fix it myself if I didn't want to bother sending it in. I fixed it myself. It was easier than sending it in.

Sure, on coming. :) I thought it was interesting enough to not consider the stock or magazines at this time. I just thought problems like shrinking plastic mags would have been trouble shot ahead of release.

I'll remove the kidding me part to the original post.

Is the guy standing beside his products and offering to replace bad items? Yes.

Does ANY 1.0 product come out flawless? Nope.

I'd cut him some slack. And thanks for the tip. Considering this for an M44 conversion. Could be neat.

Centurion20000

It could be neat for sure theres a thread going with photo's of a pretty wild conversion a THR member did. With a video on youtube of all the fun a short barrel Nagant can be!

LOL@ this being a big deal. I don't know how many gamers we have in our midst, but does anyone remember the "red ring of death" that plagued the Xbox 360 for months after its release? I knew people who had sent theirs in two or three times, or even went out and bought new ones because of the issue. Xbox later admitted the flaw, offered an extended warranty period, and redesigned the system to run cooler. And guess what? Even with the widely known issues, over TWENTY FIVE MILLION have been sold in the US alone. Few products are flawless upon introduction, but a company willing to make things right can certainly retain loyalty.

If ProMag truly fixes the problem, good for them. However, they have a history of awful products that turn perfectly good firearms into jam-o-matics. Someone once said of their mags, "If you buy one, buy three. One to use, one to be back at the factory getting fixed, and one to be in transit to the factory." They have a lifetime warranty, and you can expect to use it.

That said, I have heard some of their newer products are much better. I still will not buy them, however. They have too much of a history. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them and, unlike a good quality mag, they will likely break when you do.

People are acting as if pro mag has made one bad product. That is just not the case. Pro mag has pretty consistently produced pretty shoddy magazines for a long time. They have a hard earned reputation for unreliability. It's more news when they make a product that is consistently reliable.

I see nothing wrong with the video. I actually commend them for releasing a video and owning up to the flaws of the first gen product. Should they have done more testing before going to market? Maybe. But they seem to be fixing/replacing things under warranty with no problems. Promag sells toys. They sell nothing that someone would bet their life on or use in any professional setting. It doesnt really matter if it fails, so long as the fix/replace it. Same way I think about my HiPoint carbine. Its a fun plinker and if it fails on me I can send it back under warranty. I dont personally own any of their products (I dont see the point in spending $200 for a stock on a $100 rifle, thats just goofy thinking).

As far as I know, the guys at Archangel work pretty much independently from ProMag.

I've got the Archangel Sparta for the Mini-14 and it's a high quality stock.

Wow.

When you are issuing a mea culpa it is probably best not to use a little sing-songy voice when whining about your customers' complaints about defective magazines. Exclaiming how awesome and perfect your products are just before demonstrating how to fix the problems on a returned defective magazine is pretty insulting as well.

He makes up for it with humor, though. In this video about the company's production methods and poor QA, he uses a precision caliper as a pin punch, pry bar, punch, and hammer. Those are dumb things to do to begin with, but including them in a video of this type? Hilarious.

Does anyone know if this Archangel Stock could be used with the original M-N fixed magazine?

I like the stock, but needing to use a Pro-Mag gives me the heebie-jeevies!

I was wondering when someone would comment on the "creative" use of calipers in the video, who knew it was such a versatile multi-function tool! :)

I must admit that the applications that the poor calipers were used for that had nothing to do with measuring certainly didn't show off the guy or the company in a good light. And it may well explain how they found out about the post molding process sagging that's led to the situation.

It may also be a sign that Promag has more in common with a cottage industry than being a big warehouse like factory. We all tend to think that stuff we buy in stores comes from some massive football size factory employing dozens, if not hundreds, of workers. But a lot of the specialty stuff comes from shops that are not much bigger than a good size 3 to 4 car garage. And the "staff" might be the owner/operator and a couple of hired helpers.

I too saw the video from Pro Mag. He offered a fix if anyone had the bad mags or a replacement. He also explained other problems that could be fixed by the buyer. I ordered and received my stock last week. The mags are perfect, the gun on the other hand would not fire because the trigger hit the finger guard when pulling it back. I followed his instructions and fixed the problem. Millions of these rifles were produced, I would bet my savings that many of the actions put in a different year stock will have problems. I see everyone offering their opinion on this product and are posting what they heard. Buy one, try it out, if it doesn't perform as you want, send it back and get your money back.
