I am currently looking at an arcus 98 da. All steel 9mm's have always been appealing to me, and low price tags have always been appealing as well. Any suggestions on what holsters fit or any way of replacing the sights for night sights? Any suggestions on similar priced 9mm's that would offer more in the range of accessories? All suggestions are welcome, but no polymer suggestions.

thank ya for your help in advance

Basically you are looking at a suit up Hi Power. I have looked at them too, very appealing just dont know what type of rep they hold. Either way from my understand they use Hi Power mags, can use most after market Hi Power accessories with little to no modifcation, which is good in my eyes. There is a huge after market for Hi Power right in there with Glock and 1911.

Far as holsters it depends on how you want to carry it (Conceal or Open) and also if conceal then a lot of other factors come to play far as how you dress. Personally I dont like my clothes to hang off me, I am pretty thin at 6'3" 200lbs (just a small gut). So for me IWB or Pancake style leather holster works best for me. I also like to have a cheap plastic holster like a fobus just for walking around the farm or range carry.

Actually whats the price on the Arcus 98 and where is a good place to get them? Found them at Buds for $321.00 might need to look into these along with the CZ...

I have an Arcus 98DA, 98DAC, and 94C. The 98ADA is approximately the same size as the Hi Power but does not use Hi Power Magazines or grips. The regular size HP magazines are too short, as is the right hand grip, because the 98DA has a trigger bar that the grip has to cover. The 98DAC does use the HP magazine, but has the same grip problem. Finally the 94C, which is the earliest model can use the mags and the grips (with a little fitting). The 94C is the most like a hp functionally in that it is Single Action and looks like you could swap internal parts. I love all three, and prefer shooting the 98DA more than shooting my hp.

Regards

I don't think the 98DA can take the 13rnd Hi-Power mags. They are to short to fit the Arcus98DA 15rnd grip. The 15 and 17 and 20rnd Hi-Power mags fit though. One of my Arcus's came with a 13rnd Arcus mag by accident and it won't lock in cause it's to short. Century is sending me a 15rnd mag to replace it.

Never had a single feeding or firing problem with any of my 3. I have over 500 rounds through each of them. I've even played around with hammer and recoil springs. To me the 98DA is the best of the bunch. The only thing I really don't like is the ARCUS grips. To me they make them feel fat. I have put hi power plastic grips on my 94C.

hey guys, thanks for all of the replies. Smoke14 do you think the dac and the da shoot roughly the same, i'm torn between the two but i'm leaning towards the da.

robinkevin, the da is looking at just under 400 from the local dealer here in town

Interesting since my full size 98DA takes BHP 13 round mags. I knew there are several different style frames for DA, mine has beavertail like the current DAC. I bought it new around 5 yrs ago. I just checked several websites that carry 98DA, they now come with 94 style frame which is different from mine. Did not know they don't take standard BHP mags anymore. Glad I got mine that would use standard mags. I would not buy one if it only takes dedicated mags.

Tanfoglio is also a good 9mm if you want a steel frame. I have couple and like them.

I think the DA may shoot a little better (for me), but again, it won't accept the 13 or 15 round hi power mags. Personally, if I had to choose between my two, it would be the DA.

There are some listed on Gunbroker, NIB for 315.00 and 320.

Ok so I have been looking up on the Arcus 98 DAC and have to say I am very interested... just one thing I dont like is the wide grips. Pistol itself doesnt seem that wide but the rubber grips are thick. Whats some options for this?

I'm pretty sure the "C" models can take standard Hi Power grips if you want, but I'll wait for someone else to confirm. I personally have looked pretty hard in the past at the 94C, but always decided against it due to the shorter barrel. If you want the original Hi Power barrel length, you have to get the longer grip. Get the shorter grip, and you get a shorter barrel. Why they don't make a model that matches in both dimensions baffles me.

I did a bit of research before buying my first (and the only so far) gun, actually Arcus was high on my list because it's based on HiPower and is pretty reasonably priced.

However there were several posts about Arcus lately having quality issues. I think lugs wear due to improper hardening, but I don't recall the specifics. This seems to be a recent issue due to lowering of standards / greatly increasing output at their factory. Older guns were fine.

I have also been looking at the CZ 75B but I like this Arcus due to the normal slide vs the CZ and being more of BHP design. Also can't beat the price with a stick, my only concern is finding parts for it such as the DA parts if something was to break down the road. Don't know if that is anything I will ever have to worry about but still a concern.

Well that in the grips... I would like thinner grips...

Never had read anything bad about the CZ75B. Everybody seems to be in love with them. Actually almost bought it myself, however I wanted a polymer frame gun, and also I wanted to be able to try the model before I buy it, and nobody local carried them. So I ended up with G17. But CZ seems to always be mentioned among the top 5, top 10 etc. The price isn't that bad either, it was $470 online, don't recall if it was with S&H or not. So it's only $150 or so more than Arcus, and by all reviews it's in a completely different league.

The CZ is in a whole different league. Its issued to more military world wide than any other pistol and holds its own with SIG and HK. I just have a slight issue with the low slide, I think that may change once I get to hold on and work the slide a time or two. Right now I just need to get my hands on one, also would like to hold a Arcus as that would be my next choice. They are both based off BHP, both DA/SA... which those are the reason I mostly am looking at those two, but not limited to those two.

EDIT: http://www.marschalgrips.com is working on making grips for the Arcus 98 DAC. There has been people who have mod his grips to fit theirs and he is working with them to make and sell them, from what I hear at least.
