Are all Sigs "R" models now?

I've had one P229 .40 for a while, and just picked up another as a police trade-in. While doing the paperwork for the most recent one, I was taking a look at the rest of the Sigs in the case, and really took a liking to the 229 DAK. Nice, smooth trigger pull that's the same from shot 1 to 13. So I go home and get on the Sig site to check out what options I have for this model. Turns out, not many. All of the Sigs I saw have rails, and are designated with an "R" suffix. That is, all of them other than the pricier SAS models. Is Sig not making rail-less guns, other than the SAS, anymore? If so, that's a real shame. I love my current Sigs, and would love to pick up a 229 DAK, but I don't want any stinkin' rails on my carry gun.

Keep your eyes open

I just picked up a rail-less 229 with the stainless slide and night sights at my local dealer. I went in looking for a 226, but fell in love with the 229. There are still plenty of non-rail 229's out there, you just have to look.

I have a 229 DAK non-rail and i'm glad. If you're not going to use the rail, then they're pointless and serve no other purpose than tearing up your holster. Plus, I think Sig's look better without the rail.

If the rail doesn't change ANYTHING (for example, doesn't make the gun bigger than with no rails. Gun still fit in the same holster as the non-railed models, etc.), I have no problems. Functionality is more important than the look. Now, in the case of the Kel-Tec's new PF9, it's LONGER than the old double stack P11. I'm not sure if the added rail requires the longer dust cover (suspecting that). If so, I think it's a bad idea. If they want to compete with PM9 (they do have the huge price advantage), get those dimension numbers exactly the same as the Kahr. That'll be a winner...

The rail does change the dimensions and many holsters which fit standard non-rail Sig's perfectly snug won't work with the R versions.

Yeah, everything but the "personal" models (P239 and P232) are going to have rails

I'm not happy about it. I have no need of a rail, and it just looks bad, not to mention dragging on the holster. What's more, they've discontinued the classic P228 and P225.

I'm looking to snag another rail-less P220 while they're still out there, and that's probably it for me.

Not that I really NEED any more Sigs...:)

Is this yet another stupid handgun fashion statement (like the 80's hooked trigger guards) we're going to be forced into getting used to? :fire:

Sig did a good job of telling me which guns of theirs are going to be taken off my list. If I am going to law down the price for a Sig its going to be NIB, and I do *not* like frame rails.

Thats OK the 232 is my favorite of the bunch anyways, and they day they put rails on that I will never buy another German gun for as long as I live.

Remember, Sig is converting a bunch of its line to the SAS (Sig Anti Snag) design, which is rail-less.

You'll now have to pay an extra $100 to $200 for a NIB P220 SAS without a rail if you don't want one.

Sig is HANDS DOWN my favorite mass market manufacturer...I have 6 of their fine pistols...but that was based on their past design/performance track record. This new batch of Wall Street marketing and engineering redesign has me a bit nervous.

Isn't this the way of many companies -- develop a sterling product reputation and brand loyalty, then monkey with everything in the name of progress and market share, thereby alienating their core base? Kind of a shame.

If you're having issues with your Sig then you need to contact Sig's customer service and allow them to rectify the problem. Their customer service is second to none and they stand behind their product no matter what.

I bought a used Sig 229 DAK that was several years old, out of warranty, I wasn't the original owner, and I had a small problem and Sig took care of it at their own expense, it didn't matter that it was used and out of warranty.

I had my dealer order a non-rail 229 in January direct from Sig. I don't care for the look of the rail but the real reason I wanted one is because I bought a Milt Spark VMII for a non-rail gun. I like the rounded look much better than the squared off rail version

IMO, the pistols without the rail had a little more "soul" to them. Classic looks for sure.

I am not putting any light device on any of my guns. They will all, eventually, have no rails and round trigger guards.

The way it was meant to be.

Anybody else think that Sigs and 1911s look ugly with that rail? Yuk!

I would never buy one with a rail...sorry!

Still having problems with that Sig?
I would take it off your hands for you. Discounted price of course.

Not sure I want to spend 750 bucks on a gun you started a thread named jamaholic.

On a side note. I have a p226 9mm that I love. Shoots like a dream.

I wouldn't give up on SIGS just yet.

I agree that the rail kinda sucks on the new SIGS. I have no use for one and it does spoil the classic lines. Bad idea. I have 4 P-series SIGS all without the rail. Two of them, a P228 and a P220 are German made. All of them are extremely accurate.

HOWEVER, I just picked up my brand new P220R today with the dreaded rail and a milled (not stamped) stainless nitron coated slide.

What I found was that the new American manufactured P220 has a much tighter slide to frame fit. There's no vertical play at the front of the frame when pressing down on the slide as there is in all my other SIGS. The barrel, when dropped into the slide, is absolutely the best fit of any of my SIGS. And the DA trigger feels like its been smoothed by a smith. SA breaks at 4.25# after only 100 rounds. Very little creep and the quickest reset of all my SIGS.

Aside from shooting a little low and left (simple sight adjustment) it rivals all my other SIGS in accuracy.

Oh yeah . . . and its completely reliable just like all my other SIGS.
