I'm pretty sure only pistols were banned & eradicated from the uk, but what about rifles? i thought they were, too, but ive seen some guys from the uk post pictures of their ruger 10/22's on various forums. are they only allowed 22 rifles,or bolt actions for hunting ? i think shotguns are legal with permits?

Rifles are legal but restricted. They go on a "firearms certificate" which is harder to get than a shotgun license. I am surprised you see 10-22s, I thought selfloading rifles were banned there. Maybe .22s are permitted. Hope a Free Englishman (sic) will come along with details.

full bore bolt action rifles up to and and including .50cals are legal
.22 semi autos rifles are allowed They have to go on a firearms certificate which states how many rifles of what type you own an how much ammo your allowed to own rifles must be kept in a safe etc. etc.
shotguns with long barrels and magazines of less than 3 can be held on a shotgun certificate which is on more or less a shall issue basis no criminal record you can have one. again need a safe etc.
short barreled shotguns and magazines of more than 3 firearm certificate.

pistol only black powder though a few innovative approaches to the rules have been tried.

I was out near Bodiam Castle/Robertsbridge area a couple sundays back and the boom boom of what I'm assuming were side by sides was a comforting sound. :) I've not seen it firsthand, but I've heard a lot of the country lanes out east of Brighton are scattered with shotgun empties and that bird hunting is still a religion in that area.

As I understand it, air rifles also need to be on a certificate and kept in a safe?

glad to see they didnt eradicate everything. i keep thinking that part of the future of firearms in the u.s. is going to be 22lr,as far as expense of shooting & restrictions.anything assault is done for,& shotguns, bolt actions & handguns will have more restrictions, almost similar to the uk,if the do gooders have their way.....
