Are police whip-out batons legal to carry on your persons? Or are the laws state specific, or just no for all 50 states? Like what I'm talking about below..

You mean an ASP type expandable baton, right? Not the spring type Kioga baton?

Either way, it's different for every state. Owning, carrying, and whether you need a permit to own or to carry is all subject to state law, there aren't any federal laws about them.

They are still fully legal in Wahington State i believe.

It's a felony to carry, but it's only a misdemeaner to carry a firearm without a ccw..

Go figure..

There are some really strange laws when it comes knives and "dangerous weapons" in a lot of states. I think the reason is that people who want to own and carry knives, batons etc. don't have the lobbying power that firearms owners have (we need to remember this when we get into another NRA badmouthing contest).

Long story short it is a greater crime for me to be caught minding my own business on the sidewalk with s switchblade in my pocket than it would be for me to be caught carrying aloaded firearm without a license in a bar.

As far as I know, they are legal carry for CCW holders in Florida.

I guess it varies by state... Silly lawmakers.

It's kind of annoying to me..

If you make assault and battery illegal, then carrying one of these for self-protection shouldn't be a problem.. am I even making sense to any of the lawmakers??

But then again, I'm logical..

I have gleemed a few secrets to stick fighting, and so now I want to be able to carry one of these.. There are no laws governing them in Taiwan, so I guess I will..

What about NV? Anybody know the NV laws?

I bought a cheap one recently just to see how it works. I never thought that you could impart enough force with one to do much good, but I was wrong. I got a 26", I think, and it delivers a good whackin'. It would probably break a collarbone or forearm, or at least deliver some serious pain to a thigh. Not being trained with the thing, I still prefer pepper spray for the less-lethal carry category. Part of its effectiveness may be as a visual deterrent, as well.

As for legality in KY, they appear to be classified as deadly weapons, IMO, as a "baton". Apparently legal to carry with a CDWL. But this isn't legal advice.

best regards

In Michigan collapsible batons are illegal to carry concealed. It is unknown, to me, whether or not one can carry one openly.

Aren't bullet-resistant vests also regulated?

I am pretty sure there isn't any regulation about wearing body armor, but I could be wrong I guess. If there is it would be ridiculous.

As some other Florida residents already said it is legal to carry one here with a CCW, same as a knife I think.

Several states forbid possession of body armor by (ex-)felons.

pbhome, depends. States that ban clubs/sticks may treat a cane as a club if it's discovered that you don't need it. Of course, you could probably find a friendly doctor to write you a prescription or a note or something. :) Even that may not go over too well, though, if it's a canemasters cane. Cops in TX have been known to treat golf clubs, baseball bats, and hiking sticks as clubs.

ASP is good to go here in AZ

I have 2 ASP's. I carry a 31" in my truck, and my wife has a 21" in her purse. They are unregulated here....though some stores won't sell one to a civvie.

I also have a 10", 16oz lead "sap". I call it "Mr. Slappy". It fits great in a back pocket, especially if I am wearing my concealment vest. It is flat, and very handy.

You can get one from "Cheaper Than Dirt" for about 15 bucks.

If you ever need it...it will turn a kneecap into dust and a jawbone into powder.

Better yet, you and I both should get competent lawyers to read the law for us.
Yeah, NY law bans 'any... billy, blackjack, bludgeon...sand bag, sandclub.' I'd say it isn't covered under any of these, but there's no definition for bludgeon, and IANAL. Couldn't have laws just anyone could understand, could we?

in pa jacks are considered an "offensive weapon" and are illegal for anyone to carry except certified municipal police officers. [and other exceptions as staties and other leo's] on the other hand i have carried and utilized asp's when i was working and they are very efficient items. even had a partner accidentally hit me during a warrant service[ can you say AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH?]
