I'm looking for information on 30-30's. I'm trying to find out if there were any 30-30 rifles that were semi-autos? I know there are/were lever actions, bolt actions, pump actions, and break barrel single shots, but were there ever any semi-autos?

Thanks

No, but the Mini-30, AK47, or SKS will come close to the same ballistics.

In fact that is why Remington introduced the .30 Remington, about 100 years ago: to give .30/30 ballistics in a rimless case suitable for its then-new Model 8 self-loading rifles. The .25 Remington and .32 Remington, introduced at the same time, were to match the .25/35 and .32 Winchester Special respectively.

I often wondered why the .30 remington did not catch on? Was it longer than the 30 carbine? My 30.30 experience was short, the model 84 seemed to kick a lot more due to its narrow stock.

Yes.
30 Rem case length = 2.03"
30 Carbine case length = 1.29"

I bet with some gunsmithing know-how, you could get a 1919 set up to use .30-30...

Fella's;

What Fast Frank said is generally true: The rimmed centerfire case generally does not endear itself to automatic weapons designers.

But! Then there's them dammed ole Brits with their Lewis guns, Brens, and Vickers all chambered in .303. The exception that proves that the Limey's indeed are playing on their own cricket patch.

Belt fed autos are a different animal.

There have been self loading magazine fed 54R rifles since the late 1930's at least. The SVT's were fighting WWII long before our Garands came into the game. And after that the PSL's and SVD's have been eating up 54R right up to the present day. The Al Kadesiah variant has served on both sides in Iraq and eats 54R for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I think remington did this, about 100 yrs ago, and not just with the 30 remington cartridge. It has a big box squarish receiver, and it looks like it has the lower bbl guide for a pump rifle, but it has a twist to it, and i think it was the magazine for the rounds. It might still be had at a place such as collector's firearms in Houston, but that is the only one I have seen. Can't remember if it was truly a 3030 or in 30 remmy.
