Hello I have heard that it is legal for a person over 18 but under 21 to get a concealed carry permit in VA if they are in the military. Is this true? I’m a cadet at VT and contracted by the army, so I get all the army perks like free plane tickets and stuff but I was wondering if this was one of them. Any help on the subject would be great, I can’t find anything online.

killermonkey21 you are almost correct. You don't have to be active duty and it applies to honorably discharged personnel as well:

TEXAS:
(g) Notwithstanding Subsection (a)(2), a person who is at least 18
years of age but not yet 21 years of age is eligible for a license to carry
a concealed handgun if the person:
(1) is a member or veteran of the United States armed forces,
including a member or veteran of the reserves or national guard;
(2) was discharged under honorable conditions, if discharged
from the United States armed forces, reserves, or national guard; and
(3) meets the other eligibility requirements of Subsection (a)
except for the minimum age required by federal law to purchase a
handgun.

There is no military exception in VA.

I suggest you get a good belt holster and carry unconcealed. No license is needed. IIRC if you don't have a license you cannot carry a handgun with twenty or more cartridges, a threaded barrel or a collapsible stock (shouldn't be a problem, since most handguns don't do this).

When you eventually get a permit remember that carrying concealed (but not unconcealed) is illegal in a restaurant that sells alcohol (pretty much all of them) so might as well get comfortable with OC now as you are going to have to OC anyways for dinner trips.

You might look into states that give out-of-state permits to people 18 and older (Maine comes to mind). Doesn't look like Maine has reciprocity with VA though. Some states also prevent residents from using out-of-state permits (for example, as an Alabama resident I have to have an Alabama permit, even though Alabama recognizes other state permits).

Not that I am aware of. Most restrictions regarding privately owned weapons on military installations makes it look like the military is afraid of Soldiers having weapons. I highly doubt there is any kind of exception in your state for CCW.

In GA, yes.

Members of the military do not need a license to carry in GA, 21 or not. They are also exempt from almost all the off limits places.

See OCGA 16-11-130

If you come to GA, enjoy your super-citizen status and super-rights.
