I have read that there are actually two different "Winchester White Box" ammo's. One is labeled I believe "Winchester USA" and the other is simply "Winchester." As best as I remember, one and forget which is manufactured overseas (In Czechoslovakia IIRC) and the other is made in the US.

True or not I have no idea. I do seem to remember seeing the different packaging.

I've had no problem of note with either WWB or UMC 250 count boxes, I wouldn't use them for SD purpuses unless I had no moption though.

One of them says Made in Israel on the box, I don't remember which one.

Go to the Winchester ammo web site. In the product description you can see the difference between USA and the other one.

DashCasey, was that a circle with a + mark in it?

That would be the NATO symbol.
It might look like 4 dots, check to see if it's a + mark.

Which means the primer was crimped into the pocket.
That's why it was hard to deprime.
It is often equally difficult to prime those cases,
unless you swage or ream the primer pocket.

ANTS, I don't see any difference on the boxes I have or on the website. Only difference the website shows that I can see is different product codes for 50 and 100ct box. Like others have said, I've never had any issues with either.

WWB, buyum up, shootum up! It's all good for me. I just bought 300rds to break in a new 1911, worked fine.
Shot a couple thousand rds. of 9mm without a hitch.

I recall once buying two boxes of the 100rd value packs of 9mm Luger ball from Wally, and the bullets in one box were obviously copper jacketed, while the other box had bullets with lighter colored jackets that looked like guilding metal. The XP service I had at the time digested both without any problems, and both demonstrated acceptable accuracy. Win WB pistol ammo always seems to burn really dirty compared to premium ammo. Not so much to cause stoppages in stock defensive pistols, though. For cheap practice/plinking ammo it does it's job and I can't complain.

While i haven't bought any Win white box in about 2 years, the the 9mm Q4172 50 round box (white box) was definitely a different load than the 100 round 9mm value pack (white box). Q4172 has been very accurate in every 9mm pistol tried in, with very good brass to reload. Am guessing this is in large part to the hollow base bullet used (in the ones i checked). The brass colored bullets 100 round value pack loads were noticably less accurate. Over the years, there have been Q4172 lots that used military brass, some of them with crimped primers.

This doesn't mean the same situation occurs in Winchester 45 acp and other calibers. With the way suppliers change so rapidly, may be tough to determine who makes what anymore. It alos appears Win "white box" is a fairly generic term.
