Are Tyler T-Grips coming back into style?

I inherited my dad's 1950's S&W NYPD service gun with the LA-made Pachmayr version on it - took it off, fired the gun and couldn't hit the barn side of a broad - put it back on, and wow - what a difference - maybe that is why S&W went to the "combat grips"?? no comparison in comfort and accuracy - the grip wins!

I picked up a Model 10 a few weeks ago at a gun show. Ordered a #3 T-grip in shiny black to go with it almost the next day:

well that settles it. When I pick up the blued S6 in two weeks I'll put an order in for a polished black T-grip.
kle that's a nice lookin' gun...makes me want to get one to accompany my M64-5 now :)

You should put in the order today - it may take a couple of weeks to get the T-Grip. (And what is an "S6"?)

sorry...S6 is what Rugerforum.com members sometimes call a Security Six (or speed/service six as well)
I have a local parts supplier who stocks t-grips so that's the route I'm going...no need to wait :)

Cocked & Locked

Cocked & Locked in post #31 is apparently torturing the rest of us by posting pictures of not only his beutiful T-grip equipped J-Frame, but also what appears to be much sought after (and discontinued) Nyclads.:neener:

Of all of the designer ammo out there (Gold Dots, Hydro-Shocks, EXTREME!!!...), my favorites have always been the Nyclads. IMHO, it was the best of the non +P rounds out there.

Bullet, what model is that revolver?

I bought it used. It’s a S&W Model 649 (with a Model 60 - 3 inch barrel) and an unfluted cylinder. I removed the front sight and added the grips and the Tyler T-grip and did some polishing.

Bullet:

Do you know who did the assembly work on your 649?

Also, do you ever carry in a holster, and how does polished stainless hold up?

No. I purchased it from an online gun auction, it came from California.

I don’t have a holster for it. It mostly stays in the safe. But here is where I got the idea to polish from -

From what I’ve read the polish might need touched up every once in awhile if it’s carried in a holster. Here’s another polishing thread - check out the SP101 -

I was about to reply to this, but then realised it was my own thread from three years ago.

In any case, I'm on another firearms board where the population is mainly other 20-somethings, and I'm always talking up the Tyler T-grip there. I still find it an ideal way to improve grip without adding bulk. I was slightly annoyed when I bought an old P&R S&W 18 for $300, got some wooden grips for it and was about to spring for the $30 solid bronze T-grip... and then realized I already had a K-frame T-grip in my spare-parts box and didn't have to buy a new one. I need to start including the T-grips with any guns I trade/sell so I have reason to buy new ones to support Tyler.

They look great with the Tyler T-Grip. Always liked the "retro" look on my S&W revolvers. I kinow that S&W no longer make their own grips so I will have to hunt one down. Thanks.

old thread

Cool, old thread.

I first posted here when I was waiting for my first T-grip. Now I know what all the hoopla is about.
For whatever reason, most of the factory service/Magna S&W grips are either too small or too big, for my hands. The T-grip Adapters seem to work extremely well, in all frame sizes, whether round or square butt.

Here's my M66-2 snubby. Found her unfired/NIB. Just took her home today after the mandatory People's Republik of California waiting period. I ordered my Tyler T-grips while I was waiting so it should be here soon.

Thanks Kalifornian,

I'm thinking a Brushed silver will look mighty fine on your M66. Added advantage is that the adapters work well with factory Magna/service grips.

Thanks again,

Bruce

CH47gunner,

Exactly what I ordered. Now I'm hunting for a pair of S&W factory smooth grips like those on C&L's M66. Have not found any yet.
