I'm getting my first one. Have an upper, waiting on a lower.

Like lee said, FORGET the pending election - there's quite a few people in Congress right NOW that want to ban them along with a crapload of other guns!

Though the way the pending election will probably go, the chances of AWBII being vetoed will probably go from "slim" to "none!" :(

Katrina has nothing to do with it....if I was really looking to cover an unmet HD/SHTF need, I'd just get a 12ga pump and use my SKS as my "battle rifle!" ;)

My response went to "I just bought my first one this year" although I think I may have actually purchased it in December. The second one arrived about 10 days ago, parts for the third and fourth should be arriving over the next three weeks and I've committed to acquiring a fifth whenever a particular manufacturer (Ameetec) brings the requisite lower (AR45) to market.

While I think the initial acquisition was part of a natural evolution of the interest in shooting begun with my first firearm purchase (1911) in May of last year, the political landscape has doubtless been a contributor to my desire to get'em now.

I built mine first one this year. I hope it won't be my last one. I probably would have gotten an AR at some time but the last election, the next election and HR 1022 moved the AR up to the top of my list of guns I want to buy.

i have owned two different ar's in the last three years. only one at a time, i currently have my m4a4 bushmaster btw i love it and have had zero problems out of. just went over 2000rds in it!

I had a pre-ban AR in 7.62x39 and then sold it after the AWB was ended with plans on replacing it with a new one in .223. It took me a while but I finally got a new one a few weeks ago, Bushmaster M4 A3 "Patrolman".

Although I was planning on getting a new AR at some point anyway, I think the raised concerns about a possible new awb did play a small part in my decision, at the very least it put me in the state of mind "better safe than sorry" if I were to wait too long. But I still have strong doubts that there is a going to be a new awb anytime in the near future. I'm pretty much convinced that whoever gets elected in 08 is going to be anti-gun, but I don't think a new awb is going to be the first thing on their agenda.

I just had one built recently, wish I had done it a lot sooner!

CMMG 16" mid-length upper, chrome bore/chamber, plastic handguards
YHM front/rear BUIS
Stag lower, RRA lower parts, 2-stage trigger
Ergo grip
MagPul CTR stock

and to all those that are new ar owners welcome to the family and congrats, you know that means that we are gonna have to see pics of all ya'lls evil black rifles and have range reports to go along with them. :)

ARs...everyone should have one, or two, or three, or more. Seriously.

Mine is about a year old, now. Got it for my birthday last year. Have been spending some dough on "tacticalization.":D It now wears a tactical flashlight and a tactical laser. Oh, it's a Colt "Tactical" carbine.:D

I made the decision to buy one just before the election. At the time, the decision was not politically motivated. That was last August. I joined ARFCOM at that time to research AR's.

Sold a CZ-83 in October '06 to fund a complete Stag A2 lower.
Between October 06 and Feb '07 I bought ammo, mags, all the tools to take an AR apart, Larue SPR-1.5 scope mount etc.
Bought a CMMG upper in Feb 07 with my tax refund.
In March I bought two stripped Stag lowers.

I am picking up my first AR lower in a few days.

Why an AR?

1. The M16A2 service rifle is the weapon I have more rounds through than anything else. It is comfortable and I can shoot well with it. I am not allowed to purchase one, so an AR is the next best thing.

2. I just moved to a free state this year, and I can now purcase an un-neutered AR. (The Kel-Tec SU-16CA sitting in my safe was the previous Next-Best-Thing.)

3. I can now afford it.

4. Yes the political winds are urging me forward. I have put all sporting arms and handgun purchases on hold until I have an AR, a Saiga in 7.62x39, and something semi-auto that chambers 7.62NATO/.308 Win.

5. I love the modularity of the weapon platform, and cost allowing I will have .458SOCOM and 6.8 Rem SPC uppers to compliment it.

I bought a complete Bushmaster lower assembly right after Sept. 11th. Then I waited for three years for the AWB to sunset and completed the project with a 16'' RRA upper. I've been pleased with mine, although the Mosin M-38 has deposed it as my favorite rifle. If I get another one it'll be because a) a new AWB passes the House or b) any Democrat other than Bill Richardson wins the election in '08. I'm sure that the credit card interest needed to finance the purchase will possibly be worth it in those instances.

I'm picking up my first by October.

I got to put a few hundred riunds threw one not too long ago, and it was love at first sight. Now I just need the money...:banghead:

No relation to the elections for me though.

I owned a Colt 20" back in the early 80s, I sold it when I received my commission and came back in the Army. I guess because I had plenty to play with.

I had a Colt Gold Cup that was sitting in the back of my safe for 2 years since I started shooting Baers so I sold it to a friend and picked up a Colt 6920 week before last.

Mounted a Trijicon TriPower in a Larue cantilever mount and a Troy BUIS. I've put around 300 rounds through it so far without a hitch. I'm not sure what else I'll do to it, I kind of like the weight as is.

Hello, my name's Dave and I'm a Blackrifleholic. :)

For those of you just joining our group, welcome!

Feel free to share pics.
(Nice rifle Zeke)

Coffee and tips on maintenance are in the back (or on another thread). ;)

Is this due to the impending election or post Katrina concern?

Yes and yes. If the gun grabbers (i.e. Obama, Clinton, Romney, or Guiliani) get elected we are hosed. Every black (and I'm not prejudice) rifle will be banned. CT has an AWB, but no mag limit so I'm loading up on 30rd mags as well. If SHTF in NYC area there could be trouble up this way as well. Not taking any chances. If I had the cash, I'd buy a couple more AR's, WASR-10, and another SKS. Not paranoid or anything, I know they are after me. :D

I bought my 1st AR less than 7 months ago and my 2nd less than 3 months ago. I'm not sure if I'm adding another to the mix, but I do know I have been enjoying the ones I have ;)

Katrina has nothing to do with it...

Ditto. Nothing like Katrina is remotely on the horizon here, unless Chicago gets nuked or something and the ravening hordes leave town.

I just bought my first one. I had planned on adding one to my collection at some point in the future, but being an opportunist at heart, I used the Democrats in power and possible revival of a ban to scare Mrs. Plinker into letting me buy one. Isn't that terrible of me? She is a good wife and is very supportive of my hobby. After all, if I am at home cleaning my guns, I am not out running around, right? :p

I have four, set up in different configurations, their addictive, also like to make mention, never have had any problems with any of them.

Damn accurate as well.

You'll see alot of posers, you dont need all the latest add ons.

With current trend of politics, buy as many lowers as you can afford, good investment.
