Are You a "People of the Gun"?

The author seems to confuse her own argument

African Americans have plenty of motivation. According to a recent report by the U.S. Justice Department, nearly half the people murdered in the United States in 2005 were black. Most lived in cities and were felled by guns. While blacks make up about 13 percent of the nation’s population, they comprised 49 percent of all murder victims.

How many of those shootings are done with legally purchased and owned firearms?

Are white men from rural areas doing the shooting?

hey if all the guns are owned by middle aged white men, hey guys don't be like that let me have some :neener: I'm Hispanic and this Ms. Washington seems to me so racist that she goes into the oblivion or something. :D

We might be "People of the Gun" but we are conscientious citizens that now what we want and most of all care about it. We care about our families and friends and we care about our rights. We choose not to be victims, we choose to be able to defend ourselves and the ones we love.

And we will keep fighting for it....

The lethal success of the gun lobby is rooted in its ability to sway legislators of both Democratic and Republican persuasion

The success of the gun lobby is rooted in the U.S. Constitution, as is her right to publish her article.

If we tweaked the Rage Against the Machine song, People of the Sun a little tiny bit, we would have an awesome theme song too. Plus, it would probably cause the original composer's head to explode. :D

*enters the room wearing a rope-tied grey robe (and an NRA hat). He walks into a ceremonial chamber (weapons locker) and takes his place at a nearby alter.

He recites a small prayer "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"

He removes his hat, and places it on a ceremonial hat-rack, which is aflood with fellow "people of the gun" NRA hats. He stands, takes from the alter an AR15, turns to face the followers he would address, points the rifle past them and bullseyes targets on each corner of the room.

"People of the gun" he says. "Go now, and shoot in peace."*

Every time anti-gunners try to use "the power of the internet" they fail. Their arguments simply can't stand up to logic, and due to the somewhat egalitarian nature of the internet, logic always finds them here.

This is also true of talk radio. Emotion-based politics cannot withstand 2-way logical discussions. i.e. "Air America."

People of the gun. As opposed to slaves or children. Slaves and children are those who must ask permission to do those things a free adult does of her own volition.

That's probably for the best... Rage is a rap core group, rapped by a frizzle haired dork lol

I can't stand'em.

You should go to the enemy commie pinko socialist site and pretending to be for the "movement" put forth this challenge:
IF WE WANT A GUN FREE AMERICA, WE SHOULD LEAD BY EXAMPLE! PUT SIGNS IN FRONT OF YOUR HOMES DECLARING THAT WE DON'T BELIEVE IN OR OWN FIREARMS! THERE ARE NO GUNS IN THIS HOME!
I doubt many people will put their money where their mouth is.

LOL, I do like that idea.
I've never had the time for it, but I've often toyed with the idea of pretending to be an anti just to see how worked up I could get them.. It's still something that has to be taken with restraint though, any crap you feed one of those idiot groups is going to be the "fact" that gets printed or shown on TV.

"Lethal success" (pro gun) vs. "well meaning people's groups" (anti gun). She certainly colors her language.

Am I people (person) of the gun?

I do not live to serve guns. They exist to serve me. Therefore they are "guns of the people".

I sleep with my FPK like it was a teddy bear......

Heh, when I was in ROTC, we had Garand drill rifles (deactivated) and we were allowed to take them home to practice. I used to sleep with mine every night.

Sadly, I don't own a Garand (yet)...but even if I did, I think the woman would get jealous.

If that doesn't make me a Person of the Gun.....well, I guess my guns will have to do.

Interesting ancedote:
The drill rifles we trained with were solid wood stock, welded action, and cemented barrels. They weighed in at about 11 pounds or so. We used to practice spinning them in the air, and throwing them up in the air and to each other. We got fairly good at it, and some could throw them as high as 15-20 feet.
We would go to drill meets, and play around with some of the other drill rifles there, some of which were made of balsa. You should have seen the looks on the other teams' faces when they saw how far we could chuck those suckers.

Hi, Olivia, and welcome to THR! Good to see another woman on the board.

All in all, it beats "gun nut" which is what we're often called Although every time I read this thread title, I keep thinking of "people of the Book", which is the Islamic phrase for Christians and Jews.
