My hand is held high today-

I knew it would eventually happen, and I feel really mad about it

Didn't get to bed until about 4:30 am (work, not parting) pager went off around 7 am, and my day started again.

Performed the morning ritual (SSS), and got dressed - somehow I got distracted or I was just too tired and FORGOT to holster my pistol!! :what:

It wasn't until after I left the house and got out of the car to run an errand that something just didn't feel right and I got that sinking feeling in my stomach...

I'm sure with my luck today - that the S*** will hit the fan on the way home and I won't have my Kimber. :banghead:

You can't live in paranoia bro. Besides, don't you have a carry piece in your car and another at work? ;)

I hope that you're wrong and that you have a boring, uneventful and uninteresting day of safety.

Nope, never happened. I do a pat down before I open the door to leave. I have stood before the door with an empty holster though.

Now, Doc....you and I are fixin' to tangle here.:scrutiny:

Although how you can possibly forget something as heavy as a Kimber, I can't quite imagine. Even my Ultra Carry II requires an extra cinch-up of the belt so that I don't look like Wyatt Erp walking down Main Street for a shootout (except that Wyatt never wore a Jagwear holster pouch.... :p)

Hand raised HIGH here. In my case it was shooting all my ammo including my carry magazine at the range and realizing that my CCW was now a nice paperweight for the trip home (late at night, through a couple of 'iffy' neighborhoods, etc).

On the positive side, so far (knock wood) I've never not known where I've put a firearm so at least I have that to reassure me.

I wouldn't rag Correia and not admit to my own stupidiy...

Not gun related, but I shot an arrow into my neighbor's house once. About 3 months after the addition was built. He was really cool about it and I moved my archery target to a different part of my yard.

He replaced the piece of siding but it's an ever so slightly different shade that probably no one other than he or I will ever notice. To me, it may as well be 180 degrees away on the color wheel.

I've never left the holster empty, but a couple years ago I put in the magazine, racked the slide to put one in the chamber, took out the magazine to top off, and . . . well, nothing.

Got home several hours later and saw the magazine sitting on the desk. Spent all day with one round in the chamber, felt pretty dumb.

When I was in LE it happened pretty often when leaving buildings with gun lock boxes (jails, interview rooms, etc.). Guys would be a mile or 2 away and realize they didn't have their gun on them. It became one of the first things you checked if you happened to have a partner . . . "Hey man, forget something?" It never happened to me, but I guarantee if I would have stayed for a 20 year career it would have . . . I don't think I talked to one of the older guys who hadn't at least made it to the parking lot "gunless".

Haven't done that but have arrived at the range, only to discover that gun & ammo don't match....{more times that i would really like to admit......}

Had my snubby .38spl, only had .357Mag ammo

Got ready to load up the .357 Blackhawk, only to discover I had brought the Single-Six.

Got out the Single-Six, and the .22Mag ammo...OOOOPS .22LR cylinder installed, other cylinder in the cabinet at home...

I forgot my Keltec at home yesterday... It was in the safe in it's holster...

Doesn't happen very often, but for a long time I didn't carry anyways, so I like to go with the odds when it does. :)

My name is Walkalong.... and I'm an Idiot. (How long till recovery?)

Ever driven 20 plus miles to a range....without the bolt to the only gun you brought besides your carry gun? :banghead:

empty gun

A couple of months ago I cleaned my S&W 637 on Sunday after shooting. Put it back in my Kramer MSP and on the dresser for Monday AM.

Left the carry rounds on the cleaning table.

Carried Monday all day empty. I noticed it Tuesday AM as I checked gun while getting dressed.

Glad nothing happened Monday. :what:

Actually, I've done the opposite. I woke up late and groggy one morning, basically got dressed and dried off at the same time and then strapped up. Wife looks at me as I'm rushing to the door and trying to stuff laptop cords and lan cables in my bag, "Ummm, where are you going with that?" Job doesn't allow weapons, not even in the car. Ooops.

Happened to me once....at work! I had been on 3rd shift about 3 weeks....hadn't quite settled into the routine yet. I was off work and trying to stay up to keep the body rhythm going. I finally dropped off about 0400 hrs.
About 0530 I get a call from dispatch asking if I'd do a special transport for the jail....taking 10 inmates to the dentist at 0700. I agreed and dragged myself to the shower and got into my uniform. drove 30 minutes to the S.O. and jail to report for my detail.
About the time I arrived at the jail I realized my holster was empty....OOOOPS!!!!! I also realized I didn't have time to remedy the problem. I went in and told the jail captain (we call her captain satan) and she graciously loaned me her Sig 228 to replace my Sig 226. I was fortunate she was understanding of the situation and also desperate for someone to do the detail.
I never realized just how much exhaustion can affect performance until that day. Now I store my duty belt with gun holstered so I don't forget it again.

I don't carry, but I have driven to the informal range and left the bolt and ammo at home.

I usually don't leave my firearms or ammo at home when going to the range(thats just plain bad:p), but you can bet the farm that I will forget either my hearing protection or targets almost everytime...Now I have spare plugs and targets that are in my truck 24/7, and I have a bag of spare plugs in every single one of my friends cars that might tag along to the range w/ me.

Probably the dumbest thing I've done (so far) was load up the car, leave the house at 2:30 and drive 45 minutes to the range. Doesn't sound so dumb until I tell you that I didn't check the range hours before I left. It closed at 3:00. :banghead:
