are you buying componets at these prices?

I haven't bought anything at the current prices and I didn't have to during the last panic either. But I would if I had to in order to keep shooting. Like others have said, having a decent paying job allowed me to stock up when prices were good.

I have bought an odd pound or two of powder and last fall lucked into a few bricks of sr primers at a reasonable price. Other than that, prices make me walk away. That said, even though I was very well stocked going into this, I planned for 2 or 3 years of drought and stocked accordingly. I really didn't think the tight market would drag on for several years. Hope we get some relief next year.

If your trying to develop a skill with your kids and this is how you spend your fun time with them, the total costs are going up on everything not just components.... so if you are buying but not at auction stupid prices the cost really is only more than before, not more than doing activities with your family which is also increasing....

I think that will heavily depend if the government factories have a way to meet their own primer needs or use force to use up all of vista's products.

It's been years since I bought primers, and I've only bought a pound or two of powder in the same time frame. As I exhaust my supply, I continue to evaluate how much longer I might participate in the hobby.

I've always bought in bulk, never less than 5K of primers or 8 lbs of powder. I just used up my last primers I bought for $50.00 for 5K and am starting on the 5K's I bought for 75. I'm good for a while but I have curtailed on magazine dumps. I spend my time reloading for my Martini Henry and my Enfield bolt action as well as my SAA 45 colts. I shoot a lot. I have a 5-gallon bucket overflowing with plastic primer trays.

I’ve slowed down my usage, two reasons, prices to replace it, I’m busier than heck at the new house. We didn’t pay for landscaping, I’m doing that. Fun, fun… :)
Dare I say one thing I enjoy as much as shooting & reloading is landscaping/gardening & the quest for lawn perfection. But the older I get the more I “pay” for it in terms other than dinero.

We are saving our ammo money by shooting 22lr... Wife and I just got back from a trip to the range with our CZ452 bolt actions. This was an unlucky fly that landed on the 50 yard target. lol

22lr has been fairly easy to find lately. Palmetto State Armory had 50 round boxes of Norma Tac 22 for $4.19. Hard to beat that right now for decent ammo.

Still reloading, but this was a fun diversion. :)

I have bought primers and powder that I need when I can find them. I figure even if I am paying twice what I use to for primers that only increases my cost per round by 3.5 cents. That seemed to be a much better deal than paying the 3 to 4 times markup on ammo.

Wholesale cost on CCI small pistol primers runs 48$ and up based on quantity. I'm not paying asking price on import primers, they should be way less.

You shot a fly! that ninja level skills!
The CZ's are nice little .22lr bolt guns. They have Bushnell 4.5-14 HD scopes (now discontinued) on them, which are amazingly clear, and have mil dots. The dots are really handy for extended ranges.

We set a cow bell out at 165 yards, which is max we had room for there, and once we figured bullet drop, those little rifles would ding it every time! Those guns are an absolute BALL to plink with! We had various other rimfire metal targets set at various ranges. Wind was extremely calm today, which helped.

I highly recommend anyone to get a nice rimfire bolt gun to go plink and have fun with. We have a CZ455 Scout (Youth) with a threaded muzzle. With a can installed and subsonic ammo, it's literally more quiet than a BB gun. Easy to forget it's an real life rifle. It's also just as accurate as the full size guns.

We were shooting the Norma TAC 22, which is good midrange ammo. There was indeed a little luck involved with the fly, but got it on the first try. :)

As for reloading during this spike in prices... Still at it. Waiting on a new chronograph to come in to continue load testing. Accidentally shot my other one... lol RMR bullets has been an oasis, as they haven't spiked prices like the other companies! Actually using them to stock up a little while prices are good in case our current anti 2A government decides lead bullets are a bad idea...

The last time I bought primers they were $35/1000. I bought enough to keep me going for a awhile. That's because of the last shortage about 14 years ago when I started reloading. They don't have an expiration date so not a problem. Powder is the same way. You need to have a plan in case the supply chain breaks.

Prices these days aren't something I would tolerate. I know the retailers are just passing on their costs. Just not buying a those prices.

Bought 4 , 1 pound cans of powder. After hasmat & shipping, tax, Averaged $ 40.13 each.

Not buying primers. But i still have a few.

Paid 70 cents a round for Remington 9mm ammo, maybe 2 years ago. Case of 500.

Old saying, Can't take it with you.

I don't need anything.....yet. Maybe never will, the way the politics are going. Public enemy #1, corrupt politicians. The reason everything is scarce and expensive. Public enemy #2......Dads that disappear from or never took part in families, and guns are used by their victims, the kids, for pay back, against the wrong targets.
