"Beware the man who only has one gun, he probably knows how to use it."

Seems like everyone on THR is a polygunist, is there anyone who only has one firearm?

I've been thinking about the fact that I have multiple duplicate guns, would it instead be better to have one really, really, nice heirloom piece or many cheaper pieces? This poll isn't public so any shame will be yours alone...:)

I'm monogunous until I can come up with the money to get #2.

Then there will be #3 and that will satisfy the handgun requirements temporarily. #4&5 will be long guns. Then, having covered the basics of .22 target gun, carry gun, centerfire target gun, .22 rifle, & 20 gauge I can expand into the less fundamental categories and be proudly polygunous. :D

No.
22lr for new shooters
12ga for HD

Eventually a pocket pistol to take on trips, seems a tad silly to hike with a 12ga in cali, and seems a bit silly taking a 22 for SD.

Although it would be better than none.

I am monogunous in one sense. I have only one big game hunting rifle. (I don't count grease-packed milsurps.)

Actually, I only have one fully-assembled AR lower. But it has two uppers associated with it.

It's hard to be monogunous if you live somewhere that has a one gun a month law.

Exactly.

That would be tough. What if you can't afford to get your gun that month? Does the gubbamint give you some help? Or would you have to settle for a Jennings?

I know I have a hard time keeping on a one gun a month pace. Sometimes I go as many as 6 months without getting one.

It depends on what you consider "cheaper". I have duplicates for a bunch of things. Duplicate LMT ARs, duplicate Glocks, duplicate Smith J-frames, etc.

I like having duplicates and would probably rather get a 2 duplicate high-end mass produced guns than 1 custom made ridiculously expensive gun.

Monogunus.
I've only got one gun, a Mossberg Maverick 88 in 12 gauge.
Why? I'm young, and my parents currently have control of how I spend my money. They aren't anti-gun, but they don't exactly help me to buy guns, either.
Hope to remedy that soon with a rifle.
It's just better when you have more to love! ;)

It's a tool ...

If a gun is a tool for self defense, or hunting or target shooting, and you enjoy using tools, then there isn't just one to cover them all!
Unless you have limited funds, or a narrow focus in firearms ownership, neither of which is a bad thing, I would thing the majority here would have more than one, but what do I know, I am relatively new to all of this!

I once knew a martial artist who stuck to only style of self defense, only one style of blocking, kicking etc. But he practiced these over and over and he was blinding fast at them. He was working security at a concert and walked into a mens room during a drug exchange. Three guys rushed him and he disabled the first two in an instant. The third guy backed off when he saw one with a broken arm and the other with a dislocated shoulder screaming.

Sooo a long winded point of it's ok to have only one gun if you know it well and practice with it often. :D

Once, there was just one. A 308 bolt rifle. loaded it up & down for squirrel, coyote, whitetail or bear. That was 30 odd years ago. But for now GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

Ahhh..... When I was a young lad I saw the one......the one that I was sure was THE ONE........I did every thing to win THE ONE.... finally we were as one......my constant companion...long walks in the woods..... lazy afternoons fishing at the local streams......evenings out on the town......we went every where together..... but....finally I had to show her off to my buddies...some of them were envious and tried everything to separate us.....others tried to convince me that I could do better....I tried to justify our exclusive relationship, but....the seeds had been planted...sometimes THE ONE seemed to like others more than me....so I started discreetly looking at others...before long I found another, but alas it was not THE ONE....so I looked at others.... then I fantasized about the possibility of there being THE ONES..so I started trying to win more and more until I was tired, sore and broke from all of the time and effort that I spent on my endless pursuit..... all other aspects of my life seemed of little importance....it seemed that there could never be enough..soon I was almost bankrupt..and was in jeopardy of losing my job...so I found a support group and with help have found a way to limit my longing to just a few calibers and kinds.....Thanks THR

I went with " you kids get off my lawn".

I have several guns but most of them are old collectables or famliy heirlooms, I only have one that I actually use ( working on getting a second) and I really don't like kids on my lawn.
