Are your guns changing as you age?

Not really, I've always been into the weird, but quality guns. I have a four barreled .357 for CCW. I recently bought a Browning BDM, definately not a typical piece of combat tupperware. And I like the Hi-Powers and 1911's. Still hate plastic guns, although I find I have the longing for a Kahr PM9 more than an MK9. My next gun may be a CZ-52.

I buy better stuff now than I used to. Sadly things keep coming along making me clean out what I've managed to get. Hopefully with this last big chunk of change dropped that will stop and I'll have sold my last gun.

I find myself drawn to small large caliber guns that I can conceal. ;) Also, as my hips get worse, (the men of my family have a strong tendency toward osteo arthritis) I crave lighter weapons. Some days I cannot wear a strong side IWB holster because of the pressure it puts on my hip. I have to wear a belt scabbard!!!

I go along with the other guys that mentioned income. As I get older I am making more money. I am now buying stuff I dreamed about for the first 39 years of my life. And I am shooting them more because I can afford to.

444,

I can grok that. 5 or 6 years ago, I used to wonder about folks who owned preban FBPPs, P7s, high-end 1911s and Performance Center Smiths. Now I are one... ;)

Flat Black People-Popper

When I was younger, managing a gunstore, one of my good friends and good customers was a cop who was on the local SWAT team. When he'd come into the shop, I'd naturally want to show him the latest groovy "combat" pistol or "tactical" rifle that had come in. He, on the other hand, mostly wanted to look at old Smith & Colt wheelguns, trapdoor Springfields, leverguns and the like.

When I asked him why, he said "I have to be around FBPPs all day. When I get off work, I'd rather look at purty guns." :)

First it was Winchester's HAD to be Winchesters, then Colts, then Remingtons, then custom fiberglass Remingtons, then classic mausers, then high grade classic mausers, Then Savage and Marlin lever guns, no wait they were after Winchester and before Remingtons. All the while selling off the wheel locks and flint locks and percussion guns I Inherited. Now I got just 6 relic cased sets of firearms and 7 antique cased guns that are worth many times more than the 220 or so others. These are my retirement and my childrens prosperity Molone Labe!

No, not really.
Ok I did buy a Keltec P-11 (is that considered a FBPP?)
I've stuck with 1911 style
wheelguns
only 1 shotgun now

I haven't been serious about rifle shooting since I was a kid.
Shotguns and handguns are what I shoot most.

I actually have less firearms now than any other time in my life--Is there a doctor in the house?

Yes!

When I was younger I wanted every new toy that hit the shelves or that I'd only just discovered. One year I had over 60 weapons. Today I have a half dozen higher quality pieces and taking my time to build a higher quality collection.

Figures there'd be a DR. in the house--you'll notice no free 'scripts.
Heck - my personal doc/friend/shootin' pardener, hits me up for a box of ammo from time to time.

I keep waitin' for "free samples"

Currently, I'm more into rifles - NFA/Preban/Postban Semi's and the occassional Bolt gun.

It may change when I grow older 30's/40's/50's and when I get married, Prolly I'd have to cut down on purchasing additional guns as well.

"Are your guns changing as you age?"

Nope, I just looked. The Marlin Mountie I got in '63 looks the same and so does the Single-Six I got in '72.

The serious answer to the question is "No, not really. I can just afford more stuff now."

I find myself working more to standardise calibers than anything else these days...at last count, I had 22/223/303/308/3006/8mm Mauser and 32S&W/38spl/9mm/45ACP and 12gauge/20gauge to feed and clothe. And I've been thinking of adding 300wsm to the family...

Now that I've a few bolt action guns and a bunch of other stuff, I find that gear to carry all this stuff is important. How many times have I been to the range and seen a guy with his AK or AR, a stack of mags and a cheesy nylon gym back to hold it all in? I know a lot of folks who have all the ammo and guns for their homeland defense rifles, the training and inclination to use it to protect the homeland and family, but have no way to carry anything else.

And I was just as guilty...a FAL and dozens of mags, but no way to carry them. So, I started selling gear.

But my next rifle I want to be an accurized, heavy barrel, synthetically stocked scoped piece in 308 or 300wsm. Oh, and my friend's father's Alex Henry falling block in 45-70. That is one sweet gun.

Some day. :D

Not sure if it's a function of age, or just a need to change but revolvers now seem more interesting to me than semi.

Actually I have drifted away from the 22s and favor my 1911's much more. That's what I carry and I like to be proficient with them. I still enjoy reloading. Maybe I haven't aged enough yet.

As my income goes up my taste is going up with it.

I started off with a bolt action 22 and a punp 12 ga when I was 18. At 28 the collection has grown by leaps and bounds. The 22 I stuggled to afford at 18 looks so cheap now.

I just bought 2 pistols in the last month, that is something I never thought I would be able to afford to do.

I hope my income keeps going up! I'd love to get into Class III !!

I'm definately migrating from big bore handguns towards 'sensible bolt action' rifles as I get older. Started out with 22 rifle, then 22 revolver. Then a 45 then 38s/357s/9mms etc. Went through a big 1911 stage in the past two or three years.

I've also been buying and selling guns lately. I go through phases where I'll buy up a bunch of stuff and end up with several redundant items so I sell off what I like the least. Usually make a buck or two in the process.

I think a 22 revolver, a 1911A1, a bolt action in 223 or 243 and one in 25-06 or 270 and a poop-load (technical term) of ammo would keep me happy for a long long time.

More blackpowder now but I still have a few rifles capable of sharpshooting.

Since I have gotten older, my collection has changed to revolvers. Mostly S&W. Lately a revived interest in .22 K frames.
