Think hard about only carrying when you are aware of a specific threat. That's like saying you only wear your seatbelt when you know you will get into an accident, or keep a fire extinguisher only when you think there will be a fire.

The truth is, every single day in AZ and every other state, there are worse threats than those escapees walking around.

I second that, but understand Palehorseman's point of view.
It took me a while to come to the conclusion that I had no control over when and where a BG might decide I looked like a victim.
I made a policy decision that I would carry all the time. Now I carry a main gun (G19) and a BUG (P3AT). Always. No exceptions other than the doctor's office (where I still carry the BUG) and on base.

It's a personal decision.
