Well according in some of the logic in this open topic there is no reason to have a round chambered due to the low risk being attacked.

I owned a handgun that I couldn’t safely carrie with one in the chamber.It was so unsafe that it was returned to the gunshop and they returned it to Ruger.I have read that it is unsafe to carrie a round in the camber while hunting with a lever action.A stupid piece of advice and you can put your seatbelt on only when you know your going to need it right?

Let me spice it up a bit if you don't mind;

You answer the door with your Semi Auto EDC on you with an empty chamber. As you open the door, two guys rush you, one of them armed with a baseball bat (See my post with a link to the Cheshire Murders). Are you armed or unarmed?

If I am judged to be unarmed by not having a round chambered, I accept that. No argument.
Before the cc law was passed in my state only a couple of years ago, I carried a gun in my truck. That became a security blanket habit for me that is hard to quit.

Maybe, I don't remember. You could just get a kydex trigger guard cover with a lanyard that pulls off when you pull the pistol. Wouldn't be a bad extra layer of safety that wouldn't get much in the way of drawing the pistol. I'm a little bit jumpy ever since that one time I was carrying a glock and something other than my finger tried pulling the trigger for me.

I have no patience for those that carry empty chamber. I ignore them. Im too old and cranky to deal with silly people.

They are armed but sorely under trained and a bit uniformed.

As opposed to trained people who regularly shoot themselves in the leg with loaded chambers.
IIRC, the last time very recently, was a POLICE CHIEF, who shot himself in the leg with his EDC.
Now, I'm willing to bet he had a POT-LOAD of training, during his career.

I carry with one in the chamber, but even a gun with an empty chamber is faster than many alternatives.
