[If I delivered pizzas for a living I'd be a walking arsenal.]

A pizza deliveryman fought off three robbers at gunpoint and shot one of them in the back Thursday night, police say.

The deliveryman, who works for Tomatoes Pizza on Kensington Avenue, walked up to the house in the 400 block of Dartmouth Avenue and was confronted by the three would-be robbers, police said. At least one of the bandits had a gun.

The deliveryman, whose name has not been released, works for the same pizza shop where another deliveryman was fatally wounded during a robbery on New Years Eve 16 years ago.

No charges have been filed in the overnight shooting and attempted robbery, as detectives continue to investigate.

Buffalo police say the deliveryman was not injured.

"He has a permit for the gun, and he apparently used it lawfully to defend himself," Buffalo police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said at mid-morning.

Police also have not identified the 15-year-old male who was shot once in the back during Thursday night's robbery attempt.

Following the shooting, which occurred at about 9:45 p.m., the three attempted robbers fled to nearby Shirley Avenue, where at least one of them apparently lives. The wounded teen was taken from there to Erie County Medical Center, where police said he's in stable condition.

The other two who tried to rob the deliveryman remain at large.

In the earlier attack, on New Year's Eve 1992, deliveryman Michael J. Sutfin was shot to death in a robbery at the pizzeria. The two men responsible for the fatal shooting are currently serving life sentences in prison.

I had a case one time with a Chinese delivery guy in the Bronx.

He's in court on trial and the DA asks him if he sees the guy that robbed him at gunpoint.

His answer: "I've been robbed so many times I don't remember this particular one."

Cannot imagine having a job like that.

we need to do more than hope. we need to call this Pizzaria and let them know we fully support the driver

i agree that we should show some support for the driver, but just cold calling the pizzeria may not be the best approach. most likely youd only reach some part-time teen who wouldnt know what to say or do about your comments. a better approach may be to get the address of the pizzeria or the email address and reach them via mail or email. less troublesome and distracting for the business and would prolly have a more positive effect on the management. cheers, SS.45

I hope the owner of this pizzeria doesn't fire the driver for defending himself. Pizza Hut is still on my S$#& list for fireing another driver for defending himself. I hope they will never be any charges filed on this driver. I say good for the driver too.

Hey, Jim... good to see you. Been a while since you were on the "concealed" email list from Yahoo.

I also hope the delivery guy keeps his job.

Wow. What is up with 15 year olds? Here in Baton Rouge we just had a 15 year old arrested for shooting 3 people in a Rite-Aid during a robbery. Another 15 year old was arrested earlier this week for shooting a teen in the head killing him and wounding another boy.
And people wonder why I carry a pistol everywhere I go.

<---PH Driver

I now "open carry" with my Star in the passenger seat.

I just got tired of doing all these shady call and meets in dark deserted parking lots in the middle of nowhere. The entire time wishing I had my gun.

PH makes you sign a paper saying will you not carry a gun and also that you won't carry mace or pepper spray.

BTW, I like the job actually. Never been bothered or robbed.

Wait, so if a employee breaks company policy. one which he knew would leed him to getting fired if he broke said policy, he should keep his job?

What kind of employers do you people work for, I want to be a employee...

i am a pizza driver and i ccw a beretta 9000s .40 cal ALL the time i have gone to work without it a couple of times but i always go back for it ( it is a 40 min round trip back home )

ps remember to tip at least 15%

I'm a delivery driver. I also work at an establishment which has a "no weapons policy".

I have a wheelgun, a reload, and a knife on me at all times, an auto in the glove box, and an AR with two mags coupled together in the trunk. Tonight I also had an AK with 60 rounds on the gun, another AR, and a .22 pistol in the trunk.

I don't remember the wording specifically in the handbook, but I would guess that I am in violation of the "no weapons policy".

Sounds like you could safely deliver pizza in the Anbar Province,,, Pre-Surge. Is the .22 for Racoon suicide bombers?? :)

If the pizza company has a no weapons policy, don't forget to tell that to the sob's that are going to rob you and kill you. I would rather look for another job than lose my life!

What is it with pizza-delivery guys--wasn't the guy who invented soft body armor a pizza delivery-guy?

Pizza delivery can be dangerous, plain and simple. Pizza guys being called into a delivery may be called into a trap, sort of like hunters and predator calling.

As for the guy who invented soft body armor, you would have to go back in time thousands of years. Body armor has been around a LONG time. Even soft ballistic armor has been around a long time, about 110 years. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/body-armor2.htm
Richard Davis just made the claim and it has stuck. Of course, he and his company sold zylon armor to police and citizens, knowing full well that it had serious ballistic shortcomings that resulted in office death and injury...

This pizza deliveryman is intelligent.
He is working with money and being in a delivery business, he knows that money can attract bad guys so he arms himself. Nice, another story where an armed good guy stopped an armed bad guy.

The other two who tried to rob the deliveryman remain at large.
Erie County Medical Center say that medical assistance is being delayed because he has yet to identify the other two involved.
