Around the house, where do you keep weapons.

Question ... don't you want a gun within easy reach, in each room of the house where you or your spouse (if she shoots) spend a lot of your time.

Everyone has the old shotgun with 00 buckshot in the bedroom. But if you are sitting in the living room all evening, or in your "computer room", etc. ... any place in your home where you spend several hours a day ... what is your plan when the bad guys kick your door open and you have only seconds to react. Do you think you will have time to get up and run to the bedroom? What if their entry point is between you and the bedroom?

Or do you have various weapons in your "arsenal" hidden in plain sight and within easy reach at various locations around the home so that you can grab something in an instant when, god forbid, the need arises. I know my wife and I do.

This is probably not a fair question for families with young children ... admittedly their options would be constrained, but how about the rest of you?

I don't think stashing guns around the house is as effective a tactic as is securing the entry points of the house and getting some good quality training.

My guns are all in safes, holsters, or just under my bed. If I'm in the living room watching TV, my CC sidearm is in there with me.

I have guns in six different rooms around the house. They are stashed out of sight but easily obtainable for use in HD. There are no minors living in my home except for a 5 month old Boxer puppy.

One accessible on each floor is enough for me. They'd have to make enough noise getting in to where I would have time to get to it. And the reason I keep one out on the top floor is that I can't always hear everything going on downstairs from there.

I keep one in the front of the house and the rest are in the back two rooms. One being the master BR where my wife and I each keep a handgun on our side of the bed and one shotgun in the corner. at some point you just have too many guns laying around and start to loose track or worse forget one and someone finds it who may not be so gun friendly.

Oh yah, no kids just fish tanks :) although maybe I could stash one in my big tank....hmmmmmmmm;)

Why reveal you strategy?
Who is going to know it is you? Or is 1231 your real name? (just being smart ass, please forgive me if you can).

Why share? Because that is how some of us learn, grow and expand our knowledge / idea base I suppose.

I keep one on me with a backup, then every room has at least one. JMWY

Canadian firearms laws requirements on gun storage eliminate any utility a gun may have in a self defense situation here. Requirements for a lock on the weapon and ammunition stored separately.

I keep edged weapons around my house. A large dagger near where I am usually found in daylight hours, a kukri not far from there, a couple swords and a spear in the bedroom, stout sticks by the front and back doors, a few other things here and there....

Break in without guns blazing, and you'll have, at very least, deep, prominant scars to remind you of your tresspass. At very least.

Nothing wrong with sharing knowledge. But, when it comes to "where do you hide your guns?", I guess you can call me paranoid, but I see no points of broadcasting it. No one has to know exactly who is posting what, but they (crooks) can also learn from reading, and go for the likely locations. Hey, it's just me. Carry on with your quest.

It's tough with gun control laws like you describe. Personally I don't have those where I live so I have options. Most guns are unloaded and in a large secure safe in my basement. If any of these are needed then I would have advanced warning of "something brewing".

I keep a seven shot 12 gauge with 5 shot saddle in my bedroom. I do not keep anything hidden around the house but always have my ccw weapon on me which goes from 15 shot 9mm down to a pocket .380 with crimson trace.

My main deterrent is lights, hardened entry points, and a dog.

I just take the gun and holster out of my waist band and set it on the end table beside my chair when I sit down to watch some TV or thumbjam on the laptop. Not too complicated.

There was an "experiment" done on THR a couple years back in which a member opened a dare for anyone to find out who he was an where he lived based on a user name. He had been careful not to add any information under his profile on this site. A fellow THR user took the challenge just to demonstrate how easy it was, and in the course of less than a day delivered the man his name, address, phone number, and occupation. Luckily, it was done as a demonstration rather than for nefarious intent.

Anyway, the answer for me is the third option - carry it on me. The beauty of having a lightweight J-frame in the barn is that it can be dropped in the pocket of gym shorts or sweat pants when lounging around the house.

Yes, on here and another board, also.

Having one's collection spread over the house is a pretty good idea -- options are good. (Of course, ensuring that they aren't accessible to children).

Nay, I'm not looking to blow a hole in my wall to my neighbor's aapartment - just some standard 2 3/4" shells are fine with me.

I keep a pistol by my bedside, on top of a box, with a piece of cardboard over it so it looks like nothing's there. The rest are between my bed and the wall.

Add that carrying at home is a better option than stashing firearms around.

Once you make the BG take seconds to batter his way in and you are carrying a firearm you're trained to use (not "square range" static pistol practice) you've done much better than hiding guns around.

While not in bed, I carry a Glock 27 in a pocket holster, and the other guns are locked in the safe. While in bed, my shotgun is propped up next to my bed, and the other guns are locked in the safe.

An intruder busting down your door is a realistic possibility nowadays. People should be outside of La La land when it comes to their ability to get a gun that's hidden around the corner. Imagine all those dollars you spent at the range going down the tubes because your setup doesn't work when it counts. Your defense gun should be on you or right next to you if you are a mere mortal like me. Whatever you do, keep it simple!

By the way, I'd prefer if a criminal knows my strategy if he's cruising the neighborhood for an easy mark. While he's at it, the intruder should also know that there is nothing in my home worth losing his life over.

Dedicated Alarmed Gun Room all on display, unloaded and tagged. Have a shotgun under my bed and a dog at the door.

i have thought of carrying a gun around the house with me but i thought that the wieght would get me. no offence but people that carry their guns around the house all the time may be slightly paranoid. I have a mosin nagant behind a door with ammo sitting right next to me. I would like to get my own handgun or semi-auto rifle but the nagant will have to do for now.
