Around the house, where do you keep weapons.

Man I have so many stashed around my house, if you truned my house inside out it would
look like a freaking Gun barrel Porcupine!

Well I have known now for years, since going to a tech school, even though I was there for the 3-D/CG visual media aspect of the school, that people can track you through ISPs, but haven't been too concerned about it since I don't see whyanyone would have cause to do it to me. Now days, since feeling a SHtF just around the corner vibe after learning about the dangers of a most probable EMP attack, I do think I'll keep most details in my frazzled nugget regarding my defensive situation. That being said, I think a crook would most logically bypass my house for the easier pickins' of my neighbors, because I kind of have it loose when I'm at work or not, a nice flexible setup. I just have to take the opportunity to share here though, since I have a weakness for like-minded souls, but I sleep within immediate reach of a loaded SW40, P3AT .380. SP101 .357 and with a little stretching, I gotta give a shout out to the Yugo underfolder AK. If I'm not home, at least two of those are not there either. Sure someone who has made an appearance on "Gangland" or "Marked" might take a gamble on such chicken feed (value-wise vs risk) but then they probably already have connections to get themselves a real select fire AK variant from the black market for cheaper than I paid for my AK. If I'm away from my room, something is on my person.

Anyway, liked the input about practicing in the late hours when you are stumbling from sleep. I also am inspired to learn about not only compliant, but even encouraging wives on this topic...maybe there is someone out there for me after all!

I liked this concept about stashing gats around the house since seeing some movie with John Stamos on cable where he just learned he was the son of a secret agent, and discovered an M-16 was stashed in the hood of the kitchen stove just when he needed it. Somehow he instinctively inherited bad ass combat skills just because of who his parents were. Anyone have a clue what movie I'm talking about? He was fighting against some enemy gang resembling the savages from a Mad Max movie, but they were led by an evil tranny who I think might have been Gene Simmons, or at least was going for the KISS kind of style. To me, it was all the more reason to root for the good guy to wipe them out.

I've got the 870 in the safe room on the top level and one loaded handgun on each level in a micro gunvault.

the mosin nagant is all i have in reach for my protection at the moment, my parents (i'm 16) have a few handguns in their room.
what i meant about people being paranoid is that they carry a gun like they would a knife, I would keep it within arms reach or in a place that I can easily reach but on me when i'm lounging? seems kinda strange imo.

I have mine by the bed. (In an electronic safe.) Too many kids runnin in and out of the house to tell who is comin and goin! :cuss: If I got up to unlock the door, I'd probably lose another 40 lbs! Sort of hard to really sneak up on me. Like now.... On my laptop, TT and Houston on the tube and I can see the front door.;)

I once built pockets into walls. Sized for each object, covered in drywall tape, mud, and newsprint. Placed, high, low or behind doors where they won't get leaned on. Painted over they were invisible. A punch to the right place could retrieve said object instantly. Drawback firearms need oiling, so unless you're into drywall as a hobby.

Thank you for letting us know you're 16. You can't independently possess a handgun without restrictions...OK.

Regarding keeping the gun on you while you're lounging, it actually makes more sense if you slow down and think about it. The only reason it would be strange is if doing so is extremely uncomfortable. If it's comfortable, then keeping a loaded within your control is smart.

Realistically, if the handgun is not holstered, then you're going to leave the gun sitting there at some point, for example, when you go to the bathroom, when you get a drink from the refrigerator or whatever. Every now and then, you'll even go take a nap in your bedroom and forget that you left your handgun in the family room. You're likely to get lazy because you're human. Why do I think so? Well, those things happen to me when I don't holster my handgun, and I'm a rather conscientious person. Leaving the gun laying around while you go do something really quick, well, that defeats the whole purpose of having the gun out and near you in the first place.

"Battle Rifle" is correct terminology as it has few connotations associated with it other than it is a rifle used or previously used by a military organization.

We used to have long guns sitting behind most every door as there was no other place to store them. I can haul 100 handguns in a pickup but can only transport safely maybe 10-12 long guns unless you stack them up layer upon layer in the bed of the truck.

When I am home I keep one on my hip but I have a 97 Winchester and an 1100 in the bedroom along with a Glock 22 RTF and M3 light and there's a model 66 on top of my refridgerator. I don't mind posting it, if someone was going to look me up and come to my house to steal my guns they can pick what they'd rather get shot with by what room they came into first.

Well, let's see. The collection is in the safe. The shotgun is in the bedroom closet. The wife's revolver is in her nightstand drawer.

Oh, and I live one block from the police station, in direct line of sight of a police surveillance camera that one of the city engineers who installed it tells me can determine the denomination of money exchanged at the front door, and my C&R app went to the CLEO, so the response would probably be tactical. And response times here have historically been very, very good. And my alarm system is a beagle-they are known to bark at everything that moves(and I mean everything-better than a guinea hen)-that sleeps on my bed.

Where did you read about this? I missed it.

I'm a nite owl, but wake up totally out-of-it. I need some drills that will help me wake up fast.

I know making everything as automatic as possible is the best way, but any other drills?

A good alarm system with cci cameras will lower your chances of anyone sneaking up on you. I had a home invasion over thirty years ago, and it happens so fast that unless you train constantly for that type of scenario, the guns aren't going to do you much good unless you know where everyone is in your house at all times. A good dog or 2, an alarm system that is monitored live with video and audio, and having everyone on the same page, is the only really effective protection. And your guns.

Where? -- WITH me...even when I am going to the toilet. We have a slim and well built Rottweiler who is barely a year old (well trained as a guard dog) and weighs over 105 lbs. Everyone in the neighbourhood knows we have a big dog as my husband keep Tucker nearby whenever he goes outside to work on our lot. Hubby is a good shot too and he has his gun with him within arm's reach. Before anyone can go near us and our property, they have to pass through our dog first.

can anyone that has the firearms behind the drywall, can you effectivly punch through the wall with one punch?

OK, for the record, I do not actually keep guns in the walls ... but I can actually punch through drywall, and unless you have severe hand problems, so can you. The problem is that it is hard to tell what actually is behind the wall. Punching through drywall is easy, punching through a stud or piping - not so much.
But it would be possible to have a stash back there, if it was marked somehow ... like dead-center between two pictures, or above an outlet.
If one wanted, the drywall could be pre-scored from the back side for easier and neater punchouts, not that I think of it.

In my safes and on my person. If I am up, a gun is in a holster on my side.
If I am down, a gun in lying next to my bed. All others are locked in safes, unloaded. I do not have loaded firearms anywhere other than in my immediate possession and control.

bigfatdave, you're having too much fun with this.
I know. I've had a bunch of ideas on the subject, prompted by this thread, in fact.
Like hiding pistols in a big ceramic lamp, or a plaster mantelpiece disguising a pair of rifles and ammo, or a diaper pail with prop poopy diapers ... the possibilities are endless!

If I have pants on, there is one in my pocket, always.

Another in the nightstand (Judge or Glock 26, or both), 870 in the storage area of the headboard.
