As if I needed another SKS

How decent is the Golden Bear/Silver Bear ammo?

I know, I don't need more 7.62x39 but when I look at the price I paid for what I have and how it has doubled, I think "well maybe I ought to have some more sitting around."

From reviews the Golden Bear has been excellent. I havent tried them though. I only have Monarch brand from Academy when they had a sale for $150 in 2009 for 1000rds. I dont shoot much so i still have some. They are are also good and clean burning, noncorrosive.
Lately i had ordered the Kiimovsk from Aims. I got mediocre groups in my MAK 90 but tight groups with my Yugo sks 59 66. I dont know why but every gun has its quirks. But from my experience the Yugo SKS generally group well in just about any ammo brands.

Now i wish i ordered the corrosive surplus Yugo brasscased ammo. Those were the best , hot loaded and shoots very accurately in all my AKs and SKSs. Wideners no longer has them and i doubt they will be around. But you have to clean your gun with hot water to neutralize the salts.

I feel your pain, I just got an Albanian.

For those who are tired of buying expensive 5.56 ammo
The Wolf/Tula works great for me in all my ARs and is generally more accurate than any of my AKs. It costs about the same as the 7.62x39 when you can find it in stock.

But I enjoy shooting 7.62x39 more than 5.56 -- my 7.62x39 AR 11.5" SBR is my favorite of all, too bad the mags for it are not reliable enough for any serious use, but its still plenty of fun shooting steel plates and water filled plastic bottles.

Where is the cheap brass Yugo ammo that used to be everywhere an was very accurate? Seems the supply has dried up; glad I bought some before it disappeared.

It's now in packages Labeled Monarch Brass at Academy stores (when the shipments come in at least), or less commonly Wolf Gold.

at least in my area the Monach brand(ing) seems to be the only way to get Prvi Partizan without going mail order.

Well I have been overseas working on our farm and getting everything sorted out for the grand move. Funny I can not log in to THR when there. Upon my return to the states I took 4 ARs, 2 SKs (one was the Russian) and a couple of 9mm pistols to Houston where some of the guys at the police department have been ragging on me to bring anything I might want to sell.

I sold everything I took and the Russian SKS now resides in a glass case at one of the officer's homes in a room he refers to as his man cave. I am glad it went to someone who could appreciate it. It was sold for $420 and was not a hard sell; he looked, touched and smelled...I asked if his check would bounce and he said if it did come back and he would write me another one... Friends are priceless...
Everyone knows when the stateside anchor of a house sells I will be selling a few more pistols, ARs, and shotguns.. I can not import to our new home and have to buy locally (actually the wife has to buy and says she will if I am a good boy) in our new country.. Selling certain fire arms feels like you best dog died sometimes... But it is what it is.
