ASM Remmy with Aluminum Frame

I received a "BM" proof marked 1999 Remmy that has a painted aluminum frame that is marked "SM Black Powder Only CAL .44 Made in Italy" on the barrel (and the "S" is light as if only partial). Otherwise it is very nice with pronounced rifling, nice case colors (on the hammer and hand), pleasant trigger, small grips, a dovetailed front sight, deep crosshatching on the hammer spur and chamfered chambers. Even the paint job looks thick and very nicely done, probably moreso because it's hardly been fired.
Both the frame and the barrel are proof marked.
There's a serial number beginning with the letter "E" stamped on the bottom of the grip frame and the number "300" is stamped on the barrel under the loading lever.
Who has ever heard of an ASM Remmy having an aluminum frame, or any other Remmy having one?

I have never heard of an Aluminum Frame for a Cap & Ball Revolver.

I have wondered how some of the Titanium Alloys would do...but, then too, having the weight of Steel can be a 'plus' far as managing recoil of course.

The only nice word I can think of is 'unique'.

Someone with a lot of materials expertise suggested that the frame was cast with a non-magnetic stainless steel.
At 2.0 lbs without the cylinder, it weighs more than his steel frame Remmy without the cylinder.
So it appears that the mystery is solved.
ASM made other stainless C&B's, so maybe this was a special run that was somehow indicated by the serial number or the number on the underside of the barrel.
I can only imagine that they painted it with an epoxy type of paint to save on the finishing costs like Uberti did with their Millenium model.
Lastly the frame has a casting mark that can be seen just above the trigger guard.

I have an unusual Magnetic 'Staineless' Steel "Uberti" Remington, looks like slightly aged Steel "In the White", really a nice look.


Glad they never painted it...
