EDIT: Please note that Mizar pointed out in a post later in this thread that this pictured Schofield's cylinder is not locked in battery since it appears to be broken open. My apologies to all!

Here is why ASM Schofields helped put ASM out of business after 40 years as a quality manufacturer of replica firearms:

No wonder it shot way left. A friend's was the same. We eventually got refunds, but it nearly put the importer out of business.

I bought the ASM instead of Uberti because an Australian reviewer in Cowboy Chronicle said it was better. Wrong.

Huh. I didn't know ASM ever even made those! I started out BP in the early 1990s with ASM cap & ball, a Remmie and Colt 1860. I was dissatisfied with the workmanship, and as I found out, the soft metal used in their guns of this era.
I found out about Pietta and Uberti and was much happier with those.
Then I saw a Colt 1861 Navy in a case at a store and it looked very, very good, as good as a Uberti, but it was an earlier used ASM! I suppose they did once make fine guns .... but as I said, from maybe 1992 on their quality was BAD.
So I guess I should not be surprised that OP's gun is so badly timed. Ick.

It's interesting about ASM, I only have one, an 1860 Army from 1982 that I've run pounds of lead through in the last 35 years. It's been nothing but rock solid. Maybe something to do with the time period they were involved in the Colt 2nd gen production? Wouldn't trade her!

Here, with her Uberti little brother...

Mine had a hand, the part that moved the cylinder, too short. So if you pulled the hammer back hard, the force made the cylinder revolve into proper timing and lock up, BUT as it got dirty during a standard CAS match..., you couldn't get the cylinder to go far enough to lock up, and it would then fire out of time, shaving off nice bits of soft lead that flew everywhere. It was very accurate when it properly locked up, and I was very sad when the seller simply took the revolver back and gave me a refund instead of having the hand replaced with a longer one or having a proper length one made. :(

I have had a Walker by ASM for over 30 years and it has been pretty solid. I recently bedded the arbor and did a few other things and accuracy improved quite a bit. Have seen some others that had stretched frames.

The seller just returned my email about the timing and asked if it could be fixed. After explaining that ASM was gone and spare parts almost none existent, I plead ignorance and directed him to the GoonWorks web site for a professional opinion.

The photo answers it. You have to assure the cylinder doesn't move though.

You could look down the barrel on a closed Schofield. I mean ... if you know it's unloaded. Otherwise ... not a swell idea ....

If you had a dowel that just fit the barrel, that could also help answer the problem.

Interesting explanation, Tommygunn. Especially considering that in the picture the revolver is opened and the bolt is about 2 inches away from the cylinder... So, I'll repeat my question to the OP: How do you check the cylinder lock up on an opened Schofield?

That is a good point Mizar! My 69 year old eyes just did not note the light in the other chambers. I assumed the light down the barrel came from a cocked hammer behind the indexed cylinder and thought I had a great photo of the oft reported problem with these. I guess I need to email the seller again.

Hmmmm ..... I'd assumed the gun had been opened specifically to check indexing. My bad.

Obviously if you simply open up a gun without restraining the cylinder it .... (horror!) Moves ....
