I have one of these infamous "law suit" guns and was hoping someone would have some info on it...anything at all. This lawsuit doesn't concern AWA, it was about ASM using Colt markings on their earlier cap and ball reproductions.

Thanks, arcticap, even after what you did for Tony's widow, you STILL never cease to amaze!! Roland

Like arcticap said, contact Jim Davis. I would contact Dennis Alder also. Dennis Russel may have some info, he is the go to guy for 2nd gen Colts.

One rumor I heard was that the Colt marked ASM revolvers were built from left over 2nd gen parts sold to ASM by Lou Imperato when he closed down production of the 2nd gens in his NJ plant.

I have heard from two people that were involved with the 2nd and 3rd gen guns. They joked about how as many left the back door as the front door. Purely a rumor.

ASM Colt Address

Actually it was the other way around. Imperato had a contract with ASM to provide finished barrels. Imperato canceled the delivery so ASM just put them on their own guns. Got away with it for awhile. ASM even resized some .36cal. 1851 Navy barrels to .44cal. since these seemed to be more popular. Colt never made any 1851 Navy revolvers in .44cal. These guns consitute a range of very collectable replica revolvers since ASM produced 1847 Walkers, 1st & 2nd Model Dragoons, Baby Dragoons, 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, and 1861 Navy to mention a few.
