It's an intentionally broken system. They have the ability to correct delays, but they don't. Want to see your BATFE field agent get a deer in the headlights look? Ask them how it is that if the NICS records are destroyed every 24 hours that tney can call back 3 days later with an approval.

They always suggest a UPIN, i don't suggest one unless you have already purchased NFA items as it will put you in a very special FBI database where we do not know what information is added each time a purchase is made. It could just be a number.

"Delay" response on NICS check due to multiple handgun purchases within five days. First business day is Friday. Second is Monday. Third is Tuesday, and if it doesn't come back "denied" they can transfer it to you on Wednesday the 17th of September. There is nothing amiss here, this is how the law works.
Delay responses happened for that reason in this instance. I have experienced delays just based on the day of the week at one store. Monday and Tuesday, good to go and right out the door. Wed-Sat, delayed.

Heard things like name match, same operator most times and she know my name. Military ckearance on file. Multiple firearms in one week. System overloaded, system down, the big one....election day.

If you want to see the deer in the headlights look.....look in your own mirror. Then spend five minutes reading the FBI NICS page. There you'll discover:
1. ATF has nothing to do with the FBI NICS.
2. NICS records aren't destroyed after 24 hours.....but the results of that days "proceed" transactions are erased at midnight Central time.
3. Only the delays and denials are kept beyond the close of the NICS business day. Once a delayed transactions status changes to a proceed......the details get erased that night. Denied transaction information is kept permanently. Thats Federal law.
4. Asking an ATF agent about the FBI is akin to asking the clerk at the post office for an IRS ruling.
5. NICS does correct delays..........every day.;)
