I was just wondering if there are any other THR's that shoot at the same range I do. I use Wild West Traders indoor range on Austell road. I believe they used to be called Hot Shots. The place is always pretty busy and the staff is very friendly. I generally spend an hour there every Saturday or Sunday (nice that they're open Sunday).

Also, are there any other good ranges in NW Atlanta/Marietta?

I used to shoot at Hot Shots every now and again. It was convenient and clean, but not exceptional. Good to know about the name change.

As for other ranges, I used to like going to the DNR ranges. There are three atound Atlanta that I know of. Charlie Elliot out I-20 East, Johns Mountain up I-75 N, and I forget the name of the one up I-85 N / 316.

Right now, I'm a member of Creekside Firing Range up I-75 near Cartersville/Taylorsville. It has pistol, rifle and training areas, but more importantly, it is full auto friendly for members.

A neighbor apparently knows of another range in the Marietta area. I'll be finding out about that one soon.

I went over to Nicks Gun & Range this weekend to look it over. It's not far from Town Center Mall on Canton Road. Looks like an OK place but WWT is only a mile from my house so it's convenient...

Do you guys know of any good (cheap?) FFL transfer locations in Atlanta?

NIcks on Canton isn't so bad. Panells further north had (last time I was there) claustrophobically small range stalls.

Sometime in the future we Atlanta area THRs should meet up for a range day/swap meet. My Dad used to drag me along when he'd meet up with his buddies and would always come home with something different than he left with. Great fun as I remember...

$25 or $30 seems to be the going rate. Everywhere I asked quotes those numbers.

Ranges - I usually shoot at Bull's Eye in Lawrenceville.

Just Googled Bullseye and it's a long way from me. I may give Nick's on Canton a try this weekend just for something different...

It's a little ways from Marietta--about 40 miles--but if you are looking for a public outdoor range, Advanced Bullets is in Temple, GA (I-20 toward Alabama). They have 10, 25, 50 and 100 yard outdoor ranges, as well as sporting clays. It's cheap as well ($5/hour as of 2004).

Just wanted to give you an outdoor option.

Thanks as I had been thinking that an outdoor range would be a nice change of pace. I'll have to check this out...

NGIB, the meetup is a great idea.

Mojo-jo-jo, I'm at Bulls Eye all the time lately. I've probably seen you a dozen times and not known it.

Looks like we have 2 folks shooting at Creekside and a couple at Bulls Eye. It's been a long time since I shot outdoors so a day at Creekside would be fun. I sure wouldn't mind meeting some other THR folks so maybe we should pick a day in the near future and meet up for a day of blasting away.

I'm always up for a swap meet as well so I'd probably bring all my pistols and some cash to make sure I was prepared for any eventuality... Dave

Heh. I'm up for a meet and shoot day, but you can see my sig. I don't think I have any weapons that you guys would want. I only buy inexpensive firearms.

Don't be so sure about that as I have only bought 2 NIB guns in my life. The most I've ever spent on a gun is $400 for my used Sig P226...

Good to know Amish Bill. My brother lives in Cartersville, we'll check it out next time I visit him there. There are some fine Americans living in that part of the world. Loved those trees and mountains. There should be some fine hunting there. Gum Beaux's was special. Nice to know there good ranges there.

By the way...

All of you Georgians have checked out www.georgiacarry.org and www.georgiapacking.org right? :)

Georgia Carry is a group that supports Georgians' gun rights. Georgia Packing is a site that provides information specifically for Georgians seeking to legally carry firearms. There's also a discussion forum on Georgia Packing, which is populated mostly by members of Georgia Carry.

I shoot at Autrey's Armory on the southside and Firing Lane up in Athens.

As for FFL, check the gunbroker listing and call around. I recently found a local cop who has an FFL and charges 20.

+1 for Georgia Carry!

I shoot at Bullseye and sometimes at Hot Shots when I'm on that side of town.

Forsyth County Pawn does FFL Transfers for $10. :D

I'm a member at Creekside as well. Great place.

For transfers, check out: http://semperfiarms.com/ He's a good guy and offers a discount to Georgia Carry Members. (Go GCO!)

I had a membership at Hot Shots, but I've let it expire since Creekside is about half the price and I can shoot rifle, etc.

It's not really 'atlanta area' but my buddy and I go shoot up at Oakwood Sportsman's Lodge on hwy. 53 (just off I-985) in Oakwood.

The place is never crowded, it's clean, the guys are friendly, and they don't charge by the hour, just by shooter. I like it, you can really take your time and practice slowly *good for us noobs* :)
