Atlanta area ranges

All I know is that I need to get there some late afternoon so I can finish zeroing then wait for dark so I can do some low light/no light testing. (NV & IR gear)

Too bad he doesn't have any classroom area - I'd love to teach a UT permit and/or NRA course there... and it's way to cold to do it in the field like I took it.

Wolf Creek - closed after Olympics

Slightly OT, What happened to the range that was used for the Olympics? Wolf Creek?

From a story I found in the online Augusta newspaper:

USA Shooting officials say they're looking for a new complex because such a venue is no longer in existence in the United States after the closing of the Wolf Creek shooting complex in Atlanta, which served as an Olympic site in 1996. What is considered the World Cup event of shooting had been held at Wolf Creek until it was closed after the Olympics.

Note: story is from 2004.

I usually go to bulls-eye as it is closest to me although its been a little while since i was last there..i'd definitely be motivated to go to meet a few new people...i had no idea the place in oakwood had a range, i've driven past it a lot and always thought it was just a store.

As long as we're talking about a meetup, don't forget that there's an Eastman gun show here in Gwinnett this weekend (26th/27th). I will be there on Saturday because I'm volunteering at the GCO table.

Who else from THR is coming? Be sure to stop by the GCO table if you do!

I may pop over to the show this weekend although I've seen precious little of value the last 2 I went to. If I go I'll stop by the GCO table as I'm a member as well... Dave

realityscope -Do you mean Bullseyes in Lawrenceville? I've been there a few times, it's pretty beat up and crowded. OSL's range can be accessed from inside the store, it's just down the stairs. Otherwise, when the store is closed, just go around to the left lower side and there's a separate range entrance. I don't know what all you shoot, but the guys at Oakwood said they allow most anything but black powder and full auto's. (no .50 cal though as their glass can't handle it according to them)

spiroxlii - where is the show? I'll show up if you can get someone to sell me the CZ 2075 RAMI I want for around, oh, say $250?! ;)

Ahhh... the show is at the old Elco building near Indian Trail and I85.
I wonder if I can work this into my birthday festivities?

It's at the North Atlanta Trade Center (formerly the Elco building) in Gwinnett. You can find more info on their website, including a map.

Last time I went, there were some dealers there who are quite frankly out of their minds as far as pricing goes. But there were still a handful of reasonable dealers and a few real deals. You can usually pick up surplus ammo for internet prices without paying shipping.

Yeah, this is usually a big show. Sometimes some good deals, but nothing spectacular. Eastman's shows are usually OK. There are usually some good prices on accessories and Georgia Arms ammo is always there.

The last "Gunshows of the South" show I went to (at the Farmer's market) was horrible. Almost no guns, mostly crafts, etc.

An FYI folks, I contacted Chris at Semperfiarms.com and he charges $20 for FFL transfers with $5 off if you're a GCO member - best I've seen in this area...

uberberzerker - yea bulls eye in lawrenceville, i know its now that great but its easy and close, for rifles i usually go to madison county or ogelthorpe when its not hunting season and shoot out in the woods...i think i'll have to check out sportsmans lodge sometime, i'm guessing they only have up to 25 yrds?

I believe so, 25 yards sounds about right. I can't really see well that far, so my targets stay in the 10-15 yard range at most. :)

I live just over in Flowery Branch, so if you want to meet up there sometime, just holler. My buddy and I try to go at least once a month, and a neighbor has expressed interest in coming with us next time we shoot.

Take care,
Dave

spiroxlii - i'm not sure if she's coming but i'll be glad to have a feel, lol...

was that class 3 you said? never had the chance to fire anything full auto...

Class 3 goodies are fun. You can rent class 3 weapons at Bull's Eye. I've fired their Thompson smg and their PPSh41 smg full auto.

http://rbgc.org

Great outdoor facilities if you are a member and follow the rules. $600 application fee, then $300/year. Pretty much unlimited range priviliges thereafter, within the scope of the regs. Nice people. Rifle, shotgun, pistol...everything...

Hey guys, I just found this place. I'm a member at Creekside & GeorgiaCarry.org. I'll be at the gun show Sat. early & will stop by the booth. Creekside is great for NFA toys, I'll bring my M11/9 & some silencers when you guys want to play. I'm taking the Tactical Shotgun course out there next Saturday, after that I'll be at the machine gun pit if ya'll want to come by. I'll be looking at AK-47's at the show, any recommendations would be welcome.

Wolf Creek reopened as Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds

Hey all, first post here. I am just getting into shooting and mostly shoot clays right now. Which brings me to the reason for my post: Wolf Creek is now Tom Lowe shooting grounds. Run by Fulton County. More info here: http://www.deshotelsarms.com/ . Everyone working there is nice but it can be really busy sometimes.

Once I get money saved up to get a handgun or two, I'll definitely be looking for a good outdoor range. Creekside looks interesting, so I imagine I'll be up there eventually. I shot at Nick's once and it was uncrowded and nice folks working there, but the confinement really makes the guns loud. I think outdoors might be more to my liking.

I would love to find a nice club that has clay games as well. I never understood why Cobb county (where I live) doesn't have more gun stores or clubs. Seems like this is the perfect population for that, but maybe property is just too expensive.

KingTiger and long time listener, sounds like we're all Cobb county folks. I shoot at Wild West traders on Austell most every weekend (used to be Hot Shots). For buying handguns, Adventure Outdoors on South Cobb at Windy Hill has about the best selection and prices I've found locally. On many items, they're priced the same as Bud's delivered price. Two caveats, bring cash and don't expect anything for a trade-in though. Once the weather warms up a bit, I'm all for a meeting at Creekside...
