Hey everybody!

I picked up a kit from a local gun store recently that I had been told was for a Mosin Nagant 91/30. I had asked if they had any Mosin accessory kits, because I have an M44 at home and it didn't come with any extras. :)

Well, after some searching they found a plastic bag in the back of the store with a few old items in it. I noticed immediately that the bag reaked of... Mildew? Mold? Does just... Old have a smell? If so, this had it. :)

The ammo pouch had some writing on it, which got me and my daughter interested in the history of it. We have searched and searched (we are far from experts, but we've done the best we could) and can't find any Mosin Nagant cartridge/ammo pouches, oiler bottles... Any of it.... That looks just like this stuff. I've found lots of items that are fairly similar, but not just like it. For example, the ammo pouch has the brass closure stud on the front of the pocket, but almost all the kits I've seen have this on the bottom of the pocket. It's really driving us crazy. :banghead:

Anyway, I I'm attaching pictures of a few of the items here. If you could possibly help us figure out what type of gun this stuff went to, maybe what time period/war they might have been made during... Anything! We would be so grateful.

By the way, I'm sorry that the brass oiler looks like it's radioactive! :) That was the only way it would turn out with my camera's flash on, and it was too dark without it! :) Also... HUGE request... The black tube, which I assume is a tool kit with a muzzle protector as the cap... It appears to have some cosmolene in it, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to open the damn thing! Any help!

I'm really looking forward to hearing from everybody!

Thank you!!!

3rd pic looks like an SKS cleaning kit found in the stock butt plate

the rest -possible Finnish Mosin accessories? Finns are always doin weird ish, but they're damn fine gun makers

As far as opening the tool kit, get the cosmoline off (Hoppes, brake cleaner, etc) and twist and pull up. it's like a slotted groove

Use a clothes steamer on the cosmoline, then use WD40 to lift out the water. If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid.

Thats a Yugo SKS kit, don't know if it original or not, but that was the accessory kit that Century Arms shipped with Yugo SKS's in the late 90's early 00

Wow, that sure didn't take long!! I knew that my THR posse would be all over this. :) Shadow, you are completely correct about these being Yugo SKS accessories!! Thanks so much to all of you for the quick replies. I guess I'll take the kit back so that the next person that gets a Yugo SKS from that store can have some toys to play with. :)

I guess that means back to the search for an M44 kit. My M44 is also missing the cleaning rod. Do y'all know anyone in DFW that might have the kit and rod for sale??

Thanks again, everybody!!

Luke

I'd make the store give me the right stuff, or get your money back, really though the store probably won't want the stuff unless it has a Yugo SKS it can put it with.

Yugoslavian SKS ammo pouch, SKS buttstock cleaning kit and SKS oiler and carrier.
Looks very nice to me.
Remember to rub some leather treatment into the ammo pouch and oiler carrier to keep them soft & pliable!
David. :)

btw, you can get less "radioactive" pictures by diffusing your flash a bit, or using room / ambient light instead of flash. Flash is sometimes the right way to go, but a bit of kleenex, or translucent contact paper, or the corner of a handkerchief all take the edge off it.
