Has anyone had any experience with this rifle? Reason I ask, I'm thinking about getting one. It looks pretty good, but I've not really heard much about it, other than in the gun magazines.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I bought one the first year they made them and have been very happy with it. Only problem I had was misfeeds with 30 round mags. I got one of the correct 30 round mag latches and problem solved. I'm pondering one of the new paratrooper remakes.

They've been problematic, by and large.

You're much better off getting a GI one from CMP.

I've had one for a couple of years or so, not the very early version and have been quite happy with it. It has occasionally failed to feed but no more so than a friends GI carbine. The last time I had it out at the range I went through 100 or so rounds without a problem.

I just looked at the CMP page regarding the USGI carbines, and right now, I think I'd prefer to pass on those. The only ones for sale are rack grade, and the statement below is kind of discouraging, when you're looking for a shoothing rifle.

Bores will have some heavy pitting and exterior finish may show significant wear and some surface pitting.
(I added the bold)

Unfortunately, all the service grade Carbines are for auction. So, that just won't do in my estimation. And I don't think anyone else is making an M1 Carbine, currently. Are they?

Somewhat off topic...
I love the rifle (Dad's got an Iver Johnson remake he's had since the 60's) but the caliber is outdated (moving to obsolete status)
I would love for Auto Ordnance to make them in some more common calibers (ie: 45 ACP, 9mm, etc)
There is an article about the "new" paratrooper model in this month's American Rifleman Magazine.

My shooting partner picked one up, a very nice rifle. He had a light primer strike problem from the get go. He sent it back and got it fixed with about a one month turn around. Problem solved, KAHR (the new owners I believe) stated that the firing pin needed polishing. I will have to say that it shoots more accurately than the two carbines I have owned, a new barrel and tight action is nice.

As wcwhitey gave evidence of, they'll be in better shape than any USGI carbine, short of one that would be too valuable to use anyway. (Like the one my grandfather got from Carbine Williams!)

Just on paper, I figure the Auto-Ordnance one would be better, given that it wasn't turned out during wartime, was probably produced by much better machinery, has a new bore, and is certain not to have had 60+ years of who-knows-what done to it, all for what a rack-grade USGI would set you back.

are the receivers marked m1 carbine?

Are the receivers marked m1 carbine?
the reason i sak is because i live in NJ and the m1 carbine is on the ban list. if the receiver isn't marked m1 carbine then i think it would be NJ legal.
no bayonet lug or flash hider. 15 round mag.
i have always wanted a carbine to add to my WW2 collection. it is a shame i can't have the real deal....but this one would work for me.

Pretty Pricey Piece of goods. I would look around more I think the Kel tec in 223 is better thing to get.
I have both the ammo is easier to get price wise 223

I like my original M1's

I have one that is converted into 5.7 Johnson and I have 4 barrels if anyone wants to convert there littl 30 carbine to it

:)

Even good USGI carbines don't necessarily work well with the 30s. IME the 15s are more reliable. As a matter of personal opinion, they're also a lot handier (I prefer 20s in AR-15s for the same reason).

They've been problematic, by and large.

The early ones were. The later production seems to have been much better.

Mine is marked M1 Carbine, I think. Definately Auto Ordnance (I am out of town and can't access it right now).
