Drats! Remember my previous post? Well, now I'm down to $1400 because I spent 250 on an m39 I just had to have and another 350 on an FN 49 that I had to have.

So with only $1400 to spend before the AWB may or may not happen, and bearing in mind that im in CA, what rifles should I buy?

Here are the choices that I can think of:

M1A
M1 Carbine
Mini14
Mini30
OLL AR15 with the California stock
OLL AR15 with the "bullet button" (may or may not be legal.. scary)

what would you guys say? I already have a FAL in 308, an SU16 in 223, and several SKSes in 7.62x39. I have no 308 ammo though :(

Since you're in CA, I'd go with an M1A (just ordered a Scout/Squad myself) or a pair of Ruger mini-14s. Given the price and availability of .308, you may be better off with .223 .

The "bullet button" seems too risky, and the grip-less stocks are a hack.

Just MHO...

Speaking of mags, if you get an M1A... wideners.com has a few inexpensive ($15 ea., $13 ea. if you get 6 or more) T57 magazines. Get 'em quick before they're gone...

DONT GET A MINI 14!!

The reason is because both my uncle and cousin had a mini and hated it. It has accuracy problems. AZhunter

What I mean is that an AR is meant to have a pistol grip.

If you can't have a pistol grip and a detachable mag, get an M1A or mini-14; no point in butchering the AR design.

I read this all the time... so and so had a bad Mini-14... I own a Mini-14 bought in 2000, right before we knew Gore wouldn't be Prez. I've had no problems with it.

Silverlance, If you want a Mini-14, get a Mini-14. However, I don't recommend the newest version because I don't like the sights as well as on mine.

Otherwise, I recommend M1A/M-14 or M1 Carbine for the list of stuff to tick off the Liberals. Otherwise, M1 Garand.

M1A definitely. I also just ordered an M1A scout squad model. While .308 is more expensive, its better to get an M1A than a Kommifornia gimped AR15.

Don't have any experience with the mini-14's.

thanks for all the advice.

im leaning heavily toward an m1a and an m1 carbine. it is likely that both will become largely safe queens but that is ok. better to own and a bit poorer than banned and regretful.

the scout squad does look quite interesting. how well does it shoot?
