AWB renewal now on Senate calendar.!!!!!

I'm well aware of the AWB renewal being "on the senate calendar". However, I received this e-mail today, and didn't e-mail my senator until after I had found out the AWB was on the calendar.

Has anyone gotten an update on the status of the AWB renewal attempt? Perhaps it's been taken off the senate calendar; skipping the committee system is dangerous, and invites retaliation. Politically, it's a bad idea, regardless of what you're trying to accomplish.

Not sure what to make of this:

The bill was read twice and put on the calendar for the second session - 2004 period.

Below link shows the calendar - red = "in session". Since this is 21 June they (I think) are "not in session" - since the 18th. The House last day (red) is today the 21st.

Maybe someone out there knows about what to think re this... I just hope they didn't do a midnight smallstores run and pass it without (public) comment - or - have scheduled some "special" session (due to lost time re Reagan).

Then again, we might just thank Mr. Reagan for our freedom. Strange stuff.

So wait... That says that the Senate isn't in session for the rest of the year... so how can a AWB bill get passed before the ban expires?

Do correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this mean we've won (at least until the next congress' session? )

I think the session in the senate is still going on. foxnews had a story that Kerry was in DC for a senate vote today. keep in mind that the first AW ban got signed in the fall so a renewal coud also be signed in the fall too. Every one needs to keep on this till after the ban sunsets, have a put evil features on my gun party, than still keep pressure on the congress and prez to keep another one from getting back on the books. We are focused on the short term and anti 2's are working on the long term( teaching kids that guns are bad so the future wont care about a gun ban)

I've gotta run right now... but I wonder what other "stuff" is(was) on today's (nonexisting) calendar???

Later.

The absolute necessity of keeping pressure on The Senate, don't forget The House either, re the sunset of the ban on so-called assult weapons, in particular, and opposition to any and all gun control proposals in general cannot be over stressed.

If any disagree with me on this, so be it, however it might well turn out that those of us who make the phone calls, write the letters, send the e-mails are not only defending their own rights, they are defending the rights of those who are perhaps disinclined to act in their own defense.

While such as this might well be annoying, alas it is necessary too.

We best stay on top of it.

If we see no "public" activity in July STANDBY for September 7.

(BTW: The calendar I saw indicated today was last day - oh well.)

Senate Schedule....

June 28 - July 5 Senate not in session
July 4 Independence Day
July 6 (Tues.) Senate reconvenes

July 26 - September 6 Senate not in session - August Recess
September 6 Labor Day
September 7 (Tues.) Senate reconvenes

October 1
Target adjournment

In addition to contacting your senators, I would also suggest that you call the Republican Party directly and ask to speak with constituent services. They will transfer you to the correct department. If you get a voicemail inbox, leave a polite and concise message telling them that you're keeping an eye on this.

Here is a link to their contact info:

Justin:

Made that call, left a message, with a live person, at constituent services.

You have an interesting idea there.

Dear Sen.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has used the senate Rule XIV to place S.2498 on the senate calendar for this session, I hope that you will do all with in your power to stop this bill from moving forward in any way. It was the original bill that may well have moved the Democrat party into the minority please do not let our party repeat that mistake.

Sincerely Nestor. A. Rivera III

Will also call there office.

State - Texas
