If the sunset does occur how long do you think it will take to get new standard capacity mags. I know they can't be manufactured or imported until the law sunsets so there may be lag time. We can probably buy what are LEO only mags now but my guess is the available supply will be eaten up pretty quickly. Then again alot of gun makers may make the mags and set up a big wharehouse in Mexico. At 12:01 A.M. on the appointed day the trucks could role north.

I don't think there is any law about a licensed manufacturer making magazines as long as they have a serial number and follow all regs. They just can't, currently sell them, to us serfs.

Somehow I have a feeling that the presses are probably all ready gearing up.

From the way I have read the AWB law, the manufacturers can manufacture all they want - they just cannot distribute them. For instance, they can ship hi-cap to overseas countries where they are still legal... I'd say by next September, warehouses will be bulging with new magazines...

They still make the same mags as before, they just have that stinkin' LEO sales only stamp on them, and usually a crimp to stop the follower from dropping below ten rounds. That would take maybe five minutes at the plant to fix. I doubt prices will drop by much though. If we're already stupid enough to pay insane prices for some of these "Hi-Cap" mags why shouldn't the makers make the most monry they can to?

I understand what you are saying and, if the ban sunsets, I'm sure there will be plenty of manufacturers that try and gouge us but thanks to the free economy all it takes is one maker to undercut the competition. If mag prices don't start out reasonable, they'll drop fast.

What's an AWB and hi-cap?

There's no such thing. Please don't use the bogus words of the antis when referring to the HDR ban (or Homeland Defense Rifle and Standard Capacity Magazine Ban). :fire:

That's what they said about Compact Disc prices...

Kazaa plus a $24.99 100 pack of blank CD's equals a whole lot of music for next to nothing. Not legal, but that's the way a majority of consumers are moving. The record labels will learn soon enough that they have to do something about their prices.

The price of “new old stock†10/22 high cap. mags are ridiculous here in the States when you can find them. But cross the northern border and they are very reasonable because canadians can still buy and sell high cap rimfire mags. These are the same 25 round Butler Creek Steel Lips mags that are made here in the U.S. of A. They are stamped for export only. Check out what the canadians get them for. http://www.wholesalesports.com/shoot/bcreek.htm and scroll down.

I think it will take a while before the prices will fall but they will come down. I’m still not sure that a sly move won’t sneak up and continue the AWB/mag ban. After all. We are dealing with criminals.

Because we are optimistic (inexperienced maybe) with our legal system and expect the so called "Assault Weapons Ban" to expire next year, and then we can go back to buying rifles that look scary to poeple who don't know better, and magazines that can hold their initially designed capacity.

Why does everyone think they will be able to buy normal capacity
Because if we can't, it will only be because the Clinton Gun and Magazine Ban was replaced by the Republican Gun and Magazine Ban.

With the GOP controlling the House, Senate, and White House, there will be NO way for them to avoid blame if the AWB doesn't sunset. And considering their last margin of victory, they can't afford to alienate many millions of gun owners. (On the other hand they have earned the nickname of "The Stupid Party...")
